Glad that you posted this, I had the same thing happen and was worried I messed up, your video showed me it was common, and the comments help me get it off

I just completed this job. following the other video. Use the steering wheel puller to apply tension, but dnot over tighten it like in this video. Than hit the center bold with an hammer. It did the trick for me.

I had the same problem with the threads ripping out, I drilled the hole all the way through, put the bolt through with a nut on the back side. drenched the center in PB Blaster and cranked it right off.

I agree it is the right way but I was doing the same way to replace wiper multiswitch of a 94 escort. I destroyed steering wheels on nearly 5 escorts in junk yard. I could not get even one out. Finally I drill holes to use bolts and nuts, but still no luck. At the end, I remove the column and remove the multichannel in pieces. Hammering the nut might be what I'm missing. (watch?v=jIo5ViIlA5g). I will try today. By the way, I like the idea to keep the center bold on to use as base. Thanks anyway

I don't know if you were able to remove the steering wheel, but something similar happened to me with a Daihatsu Rocky (The steering wheel started to bend). I drove back to the auto parts store for advice. The manager walked out to the car. He ended up pounding the center bolt (it was a little loose I believe) with a brass hammer to loosen the steering wheel. Although I've seen it work, I'd only use it as a last resort, as it may damage the steering column.

So it would be really helpful if you would point the camera towards what you’re doing

My steering wheel on my 1995 escort has about 3/4" of slack. I can push it in and pull it out about 3/4". It won't come off but has this slack which bothers me. If I pull the steering wheel off will I find the problem and why is it doing this?
