NICE! I was just discussing last evening with my physic professor ways to get my MacGregor off the trailer under my carport to repaint the hull. I had a thought of dropping the tongue, supporting aft, then raising the tongue to remove the bow. I'm pretty thrilled to find this serendipitously, and see that I'm onto something! Thanks!

I am glad people are finding this useful. I have had to do it several times for trailer and swing keel maintenance. Improvement: To hold up the front of the boat, I am now using a 2 Ton Come Along Cable Puller with 2 Hooks. Pretty nice operation ! Most people take too many risks doing this on their own it looked like your DIT stand was more than adequately framed up for the boat Although if its a boat you plan on having for many years. It wouldn’t hurt to glue and screw a plywood gusset. On one side of the stand to ensure no racking under the load sailboats with all their keel weight always are heavier than they look ? Perhaps you do use the keel to support some of the weight ? It was hard to tell in the camera angles of the video with the trailer there ? Ill assume you have that engineered into the process Ive been around Boatyards most of my life and a boat owner for Almost 50 years now. Ive seen Sailboats come off their stands and trailers before and the problem with DIY tools is that Insurance usually wont cover the damages unless it was certified equipment that was used

I built the stern cradle, but didn't trust any trees in my yard. I am building an "A-Frame" contraption out of 16' 4 x 4s to attach a block and tackle to lift up the bow. I can attach the rope from this to a tree trunk! (My trees are very tall and don't have lower big branches.)

I thank you so much for taking the time to make this vid. now I can paint the bottom of my boat. my only problem is that { need to figure out how to slide the boat off the end of the trailer so that I can get the back support in place.

I wonder if uou could back the boat trailer onto auto ramps, if you need more height for easier work under the boat when supported. That would require the come-along or some kind of winch to lift the front. If you have no tree, you could use a 4X4 or 4X6 (longer than the width of your trailer wheels) under the bow and use a slower process of jacking up each end, blocking it up on each side as you switch back and forth to get to the desired height. I was lucky enough to have four cable winch camper jacks and some long recycled deck 4X6s to lift my 21 foot sailboat so I can now rebuild the swing keel. Any tips on that project?:-)

N my first trip to Louisianna i learned what those big trees were for as the family we stayed with was a Pipeline Welder and used to hang his Welder from the tree at night to stop thieves from becoming too tempted to steal ! I found that sort of surprising since there was a loaded shotgun in every corner of the house and we sat out on the front porch with pistols and drinking doing target shooting till all hours of the night and they had a Rottweiler running around the yard 24/7 ! Only in the South gets that was pretty normal living for them As they told me they dont call 911 they take care of the problems before the Sherriff is called
