I agree with your decision to remove the old panels and insulation, especially when you don’t know what it looks like underneath. Who wants to do a renovation and find out later your foundational pieces are damaged and repairing them requires you to tear out the work you have already done. It makes much more sense to start from a stripped bus and build it out exactly how you want it so if anything ever goes wrong, you will know how it’s all out together and it will be easier to fix with the knowledge you have gained. Trust me, that’s the right way to do it. I have had experience with renovations and if you don’t do it right the first time, you end up spending more in the long run and you expend far more time and energy as well. You will definitely be happier in the end that you took the time and spent the money to build it out from the foundation up.

Another good point for completely taking everything out is that you get to know your vehicle really well, what all is in it, change things etc. Sure it's extra work, but better to do the work now than worry about something going bad later and having to tear into things you already finished. Congrats Jay... you have 99 videos now. I agree with the guy who said to get a Dremmel tool. They come with a set of accessories that contains a tiny version of your grinding wheel, in addition to some other options that will come in handy in wood working, even laying a vinyl floor. Keep the panel with the cutout for the vent. It could come in handy as a pattern when making trim for around your skylight.

When you remove the emergency hatch, throw one of those inside roof panels on the top of the bus over the hole before throwing your tarp up there. Sometimes you can cut/grind off the head of a screw, remove what it was holding & then use vise grip locking pliers to remove the rest of the screw if you have enough of the stem to grab onto.

For the screw that is in the front right corner of the bus ceiling, you can get a Drimmel Tool which would be shaped like a cut off wheel with a 1/4” steel shank or a Dremmel tool which would be a chili drive stone with a 1/4” steel shank and put the shank of the tool in a Dremmel tool or put in a drill motor and use it to grunge off the head of the screw.

The big picture is the bus was put together as a way to transport kids in short bursts. When you change the intended use, you change the ideal for how it needs to be put together. It sounds like you've given this a lot of thought and know what things are most important to you. One word about the max fan. Lots of the van/bus dwellers have said how important it is to put 2 max fans in- so one can pull air in and one can exhaust it-keeps things way more comfy.
