This worked!! All 3 lights (VSC, Trac Off & Check Engine) went out IMMEDIATELY as soon as I started the car, without driving the car. I have an ‘08 Lexus GS350 in case it helps someone to know. Thank you!!

Gaskets for the fuel cap are available from Toyota for about $4.00. No need to replace the entire fuel cap assembly.

wow, I have done with the plastic wrap and it worked, previously cleaned with a normal cloth, and didn't work after that cleaned with some degreaser, and worked like a charm. Thanks for the video you saved me a lot of money. Did this in a 2007/2008 Kluger/Highlander.

Man the things you can learn on KZbin. I have a 2007 Chevy Equinox which was given me the code P0455 (large evac leak detected). The only thing I had done was change the gas cap. But still the code came back after erasing the code. I was about to put my vehicle in the shop so they could find the leak. I came across this video. And I was like, 'Yeah right, this not gona work'. But I said, what the heck. I'll give it a try. Got some cling wrap and did the same thing which was done in the video. I wrapped it around my gas cap. I went and started the vehicle. Nope, check engine light still on. So the first thing I thought was, I knew it wouldn't work. Because it seemed like in the video the check engine light went off right away once you started the vehicle. I had some running around to do. So I thought, I'll just leave the wrap on. You never know. I did my running around. And while driving I notice the check engine light was off. I said, would you look at that. That check engine light had been on for about a week. Like I said, the things you can learn on KZbin.

The starter on my daughters Jeep failed while she was away at college. She did a facetime video with me and I could here the starter turning but not engaging. I had AAA tow it to the nearest Jeep dealer where she goes to school. I called the dealer to tell to replace the starter. After repairing I noticed a $169 diagnostic fee on the bill. I called them and they said they had to verify that it was the starter that had failed and they don't just the the customers word for what the issue is. So they charged me $169 to tell me what I already knew, unbelievable! If my daughter were closer to home I would have just done it myself.

Not to tell you what to do, but depending on where you are there are Mobile Mechanics that do decent work. I work on my small work fleet (6) vehicles, but if I'm on the road I'll call a guy. One I know of works on big rigs but will do trucks, except the new stuff and won't do cars. But most are $80-$100/hr and a starter is an hour job, unless it's on a Tundra, then it's under the intake manifold!

this is exactly what we are going through with our car. Did the light come back on at a later date? My husband has a diagnostic tool also called an OBD scanner, that shows an error code and steps to reset it, however, eventually it lights up again. He's going to check the gas cap since we have never replaced it since owning it as a used vehicle 7 yrs ago. I get blamed for the darn light coming on every time I drive it and I'm sick of it and the driving around crap to solidify a maybe its fix or not is getting old. If you don't fix it in Texas you can't pass a yearly inspection.

It's easy to tell whether you need a new gasket for your fuel cap. Turn the cap counter clockwise. After turning 90° then the cap engages the threads, twist off. If you don't feel resistance after the cap engages the threads, you likely have a gasket that needs to be replaced.

Mine had the same symptoms BUT it would only idle and not rev up when I pressed the accelerator (limp mode?). I disconnected neg battery terminal for 10 minutes, reconnected it and now my Forerunner won't start at all. Did all the tricks for the gas cap, but I'm stranded at my house so I can't get another gs cap- seems like something more complicated than a gas cap for my issue.

I had the same lights in my Toyota Sienna several years ago. I cleaned the gas cap, but it took about another hour or so of driving for all the lights to go out. Since then I have done this a few more times, all successfully. The one time I took my vehicle to the dealer to have them check it, they couldn’t figure out what was causing the 3 lights to come on. I told them about how I had cleaned the gas cap with success earlier, and they said, nah that couldn’t fix the problem. They charged me $135 for nothing. I took my Sienna home, cleaned the gas cap, and by the next day, all the lights were out. I could probably use a new gas cap, though.

Glad I found your channel. My Infinities check engine light keeps going on, I'm going to try the siran wrap trick to see if that is what the problem is. It's a 2012 Infinity that I just purchased and three days after that darn light went on. As Is sale so the dealer won't do anything to help. The mechanic I took it to couldn't find anything wrong. I went to the junkyard and just bought a standard gas cap made the check engine light disappear, easy five dollar fix don’t forget to reset or wipe out the codes when you get a gas cap. This happens on my Lexus as well.

These systems fn blows!! I can't tell you what lengths I have gone through to have this issue fixed. Gas cap at auto stores suck. You have to buy dealership one. The dealer told me it was the air filter because it was an aftermarket one . This did not fix issue. Even with there diagnostic equipment they had a hard time finding problem. I would say total, Had vehicle is 2 different mechanics, one being the dealer for 1 month cost, over $2000. They all can take there VSC light warning in vehicles and shove it up there ARSES.🤪 I liked how you used the 2 dollar ceran Wrap

The plastic wrap was only used to determine if vacuum was the issue, and once that was determined I bought an after market gas cap at the auto parts store and it worked like a charm. The lights never came back.

I learned thare are as many as 21 sensors on a car these days. I started with forward oxygen sensor. No effect. I can't replace 21 on my 2003 Saturn ( which i got for free then fixed up 13 years ago). My brother told me about the gas cap. I'll try that with saran wrap or buy a new one. If that doesn't work to hell with sensors! It runs like a top. I just replaced EMC, starter, and ignition switch. My mechanic told me to "fuck it"! Have an ‘08 Sienna XLE. had all these random misfire codes (VSC) and even would have to shut my van down as the “traction control” light would blink along with the engine light causing the van to lose power and decrease in speed, till I shut it off and restarted it. And that would take care of it for a week or so then back again, usually one the Highway. So off to the shoulder again as the van would slowly lose power and buck and gas be basically unresponsive Seems like maybe the compression was changing over the 200,000 miles as i started putting premium gas in and the higher octane was the key.. as all the codes went away (once cleared) and never came back. Same spark plugs. I did change one injector (before I switched to premium gas) as it did have that code come up for the number 2. But the check engine lights would still come on. But same spark plugs on all 6 cylinders as those back are just too hard to change without a good reason. Again premium gas and all my check engine lights and blinking lights are a thing of the past and it’s nice having a dash free of those. (Those lights came on probable a dozen times in the past. But now problem solved for like 9 months now and counting. So if it returns might try that.

Sometimes this happens because of a bad O2 sensor I have a Gen 4 Toyota 4Runner so it has 4 of them 2 pre cat and 2 after 2 banks (bank1, cyl 1/3/5 pass.sd) (bank2, cyl 2/4/6 drvr) I've had to replace bank 2 sensor 2 (after cat) myself. VSC and Trac on a Toyota 4Runner stand for Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control. These have sensors in each wheel that connect to the car’s Powertrain Control Module (PCM) The Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control systems rely on many sensors that can get dirty or loose. So before spending any more money do a basic reset of the lights and see if it will turn on again or if it’s just a dirty sensor. Stop your car. Put it in Park or in Neutral (if it’s a manual). Locate your VSC button (usually on the left side of the steering wheel) Press and hold the VSC button for about three seconds until the VSC OFF and Trac OFF lights appear Release the button, Press the button again, The VSC OFF and Trac OFF lights should disappear. There is also a way to do this via the OBD2 pins by jumping (shorting) the CS/ Clock Signal to the TX / Transmission or Data pin if the buttons not working. Just google search for YT video "zero point calibration toyota trac steer"

Wow, I can't tell you how long I have been screwing around trying to put this 3 light Xmas tree out on my 2004 Highlander. I spent over $200 twice at two different repair shops and they couldn't find the problem. Here's the rub. I told them both times that I had replaced the gas cap so that wasn't the problem. Well it was. When I put the plastic wrap over the filler tube and put my new cap back on the lights were permanently gone. The Advanced Auto store here on Kauai sold me the wrong new cap. thanks for this great video and sharing your knowledge.

I've got a 2012 toyota Sienna. Had this light go off. Was looking at a $150 o2 sensor when I saw this video. Gave my gas cap a firm twist and bam -- light went out. The cap would turn on tight but inspecting the cap further the white plastic part inside looks loose like it would vibrate and separate from the black cap causing a leak. $12 cap from O'Reilly and we're fixed.

My trac off/check engine have been going on and off (goes back and forth every other day) for the last month. My maintenance light is on too but that's def because im a little late on oil change. Im too brok right now to deal with auto shops or the dealers as they charge way too god dam much for the most basic help. Its the middle of the night otherwise i would right now try my gas cap, but will wait till morning. I had no idea they had sensors for the gas cap that would trigger a check engine/traction control light. Wtf.... Scam to get people like me stuck at dealerships dropping a grand for a fix/diagnostic, when we most likely just need a new gas cap. Im optimistic this is my problem as my gas cap last i recall was pretty grimmy, so very possible the seal was compromised. I can barely afford gas right now, let alone another auto bill. Dam registration needs renewal, state inspection, the late oil change, and new tires alone are wrecking this months budget.

I have a 2007 v6 3.3l highlander and my VSC light, trac light, and check engine light all came on at the same time. I did a scan at Autozone and got a P0430 code. I was about to get a new catalytic converter. I decided to put the cling wrap on before the cap and I unplugged the positive terminal for 5 mins. After reconnecting the battery and starting the car, all the lights were gone!!

I have a 2016 Corolla and I had both of my CV axles changed. When I picked it up from the shop I noticed that both my engine light and the trac off light were on. I thought maybe the mechanic damaged the abs wire or something. I was also almost on empty so I stopped yesterday and filled the car up and today my lights are off and now my cruise control works again. I guess I need to get a new gas cap. It's just weird that the lights weren't on when I dropped the car off but when I picked it up they were. Oh well, easy fix.

Thank you for your great tip. My car had the same problem. My car battery was dead due -7 temperature. I jump stared my my car, engine lights VCS Lights, brake waring light and warning light ⚠️ kept on dashboard while engine running. I followed your tips and started the engine again, and all warning lights got off. Thanks again

In older cars you didn't have to deal with this stupidity and iirc the check engine light gimmick first started with American made car brands where they also had problems during the 80s because once that "check engine" light came on it was bases loaded for the car dealership repair staff while you're trying to pitch the ball that something is up but the car runs fine, just had a tune up, oil change, etc... 20 years later and it's frigging Toyota and all the current cronies who have complicated "check engine" bs but if you know how to change your own oil, spark plugs and brakes.. to name a few because you might as well be able to change your water pump with those skills... and you should be able to avoid getting your bank account invaded. Also I went to a dealership to get an oil change and the car requires a particular type and synthetic... I tell the repair cashier guy and he acted all freaked out that the car needed "synthetic oil" so instead of the $70USD I was told over the phone that repairs dept cashier puck tells me "oh it's synthetic oil, that's $100 USD oil change service" all with a straight face... no doubt he was gonna pocket $30 to buy hard drugs with cause I canceled the appointment and never went there again. Just remember that some dealership repair centers might do this dirty tactic, never mind that you often can't even see them doing repairs or know if they actually used the proper oil and not some cheap and bad brand.

2007 Toyota Camry here when all the dash lights went crazy scared the hell out of me the emergency lights the problem lights a check engine light the tire light all were flashing and flashing and flashing I put in a new gas cap all is good..
