As an off and on resident of Paris, France, over the last 60 years I've seen these "love locks" grow from being placed on one bridge after another, till finally, as you pointed out, the railings on some of them began to collapse under the weight. With millions of tourists visiting each year, the number of locks being placed everywhere became a blight that plagued every beautiful monument and bridge in the city. Another thing that concerned Parisians was also the astronomical number of lock keys that were thrown into the Seine after a lock was placed... finally to corrode and polute the waters with tons of toxic metals. I've even witnessed the mindlessness of couples and families attaching locks to railings that were already beginning to fall from a bridge.

it's funny how you turn a simple human behavior into a malicious vile crime and have edgy opinions about it i mean you can just inform people, stop the sales and remove locks from time to time. Apart from the fact that cities themselves start such "cute little things" to create something funny and attract tourists

@Gobbbbb Жыл бұрын
@@nadMoZzzg "You can just inform people" - Ha, good one. Also don't be stupid, you can't just ban the sale of locks, that's the stupidest shit I've ever heard. Should we stop selling paint, knives or literally anything that could be used for vandalism or violence? The problem isn't the product but the people themselves, which is why it should be made a crime and/or be a finable offence. Not only does it completely ruin the aesthetic of the city, but destroys the structural integrity of the fence. If you can't work out why this is a bad thing, then I can't help you. No part of it is "simple human behaviour" - It's morons who can't use their brain, have no common sense and just see other people doing it, thinking it's acceptable. How the fuck is RingerDaClown being edgy by saying that people are selfish by putting up these locks? 😂 How is it NOT selfish? Use your common sense and your last few brain cells if you can.

And there are the places that becomes a landmark because of doing something like this...which was the case for the infamous Gum Wall in Seattle. So the gum wall started in the 90s after the theater next door became home to Unexpected Productions' Theatresports and the patrons who came to the theater would stick their gum on the wall before they entered. No matter how many times the local authority tried to clean it, the gum has remained, and the authority later decided to keep it and declare it a tourist attraction in 1999. It went through a deep cleaning in 2015 to remove over 2K pounds of gum to prevent the degradation of the brick, and once the cleaning was complete...people were back to sticking gum on the wall. Putting love locks on a bridge or gum on a wall doesn't give a city character, it ruins their reputation by encouraging tourists to do it.

Here's a better idea. - Find locks that unlock easy using hidden button/magnet/etc. No specific key or bolt cutters are required but it's not obvious they unlock easy. - Sell them to tourists so they write on it and put it on a bridge or something. - Hire a few guys to out every evening to remove locks. Clean them (people likely use Sharpies, it cleans easy with acetone). Then repackage in a new box. - Sell the locks again the next day. No need to cut, scrap and buy completely new locks. - Rinse and repeat.

I love the idea of the locks, places that are allowed to have them state clearly that you can. Doing this without permission and ruining a beautiful city is awful, ya’ll work hard, big respect for you x

I saw some of these last week locked onto St. John of Nepomuk's marker. I absolutely hate these horrible, ugly locks. Thank you so much for the work you do

In portugall brass is like 1,5 kg, locks areade from normally a brass body and a steel bar, so they would have to separate them to get the full value, and the 222kg is both mixed so i say easly 100kg of brass only

Amateur lock-picking is a hobby, thanks to the Lock Picking Lawyer. Hold a competition first day of the month to see who can pick the most locks.

Lock sport was a thing before LPL but i agree it could be made into an event where people can compete and bring even more tourism. Great idea!

Anyone know of any other lock bridges in Europe? That I can travel too? to lockpick?

@@FigthAGAINSTSCOIALISM Cologne (the Hohenzollern bridge near the Cologne Dome), and if you think that there are a lot of love locks in Prague, check out the gallery on this website: www.cologne.de/love-locks.html It's a train bridge, so no real historical value and the Bahn removes the locks every now and then.

It wouldn't harm anything really. Even with the rusting of the lock pieces life would be fine down there. There's plenty of wildlife around sunken ships and etc, and this would be so minimal that it wouldn't even affect populations that are sensitive to rust in the water. And the pieces that fall in would just become part of the sediment in the sea beds and rivers. Nothing small will eat them and nothing big will be that close to the ocean floor to accidentally eat them.
@thomas.dingley5 жыл бұрын
david bass The niche species that inhabit the rivers in that region get negatively affected by even the smallest of changers to their environment so idk how you can know what a couple kilos of painted metal will actually do.
