Removing Second Row Seat Tracks On Sienna, FAIL!!!

Tried and failed to remove the seat tracks. But I came up with a compromise.

Seems that a 7/16 plywood with cutouts around track, shim under to bring flush, cover track with thin metal and then carpet. Gonna lose a bit of ceiling height, for me I'd be ok to be flat in the rear and ramp up over. Or option 2 build it up enough to have an under floor storage area. Cheers & thanks.

Toyota said they are welded in place. I guess they were dumbing it down for me. Bottom line, I think they are best left in and covered up. I put a wire shelf over both, zip tied it in place, and moved both as far forward as possible. What I can't figure out is why Toyota doesn't just make a hybrid cargo van!?!!! There's obviously a market for one, based on all the videos on how to remove the seats. I would be an ideal van for camping!

Yes, the floor will just cover it up. Better to leave it as is.

They are not welded. They could be removed, you just have to do it from underneath the vehicle.

My plan is to build a small plywood box to cover each carriage/trolley individually. That way my floor can still be as low as possible. My bed platform will cover the boxes partially. The more expensive Siennas have longer rails that go way back. A bed platform would most likely cover the carriages if you have longer rails.

Im homeless and removed the seats to sleep in the back. It a real pain on my knees crawling in and out over those tracks even after covering them up with carpet pad. Thanks for the video. Now i know im stuck with them.

I put hardwood floor over my rails. If you want the floors leveled, then they need to rise above the rails on that end anyway.

Actually there’s 4 bolts that go through the cab, you can reach them from the underside of the van. You have to jack it up or put it on a lift to get to them though. Most tire shops wouldn’t mind helping you out if they’re not too busy.

Have you thought about trying to just take off the top parts that attach to the seats? Do those things just come out? I see there are bolts, but I'm afraid if I take them off it won't work and I won't be able to get them back on. You go first! Lol

I am thinking the same thing, maybe it's possible to remove the trolley from the rails and cover the rails since the rails don't seem to protrude much above the carpet? Maybe try to remove the front stopper or the rear stopper from the rail and see if you can roll the trolley off the rail, maybe one side at a time?

@@bvnj123 I actually figured it out on a Toyota website. The trolley is attached to the underside carriage. You'd have to have a mechanic take it off from underneath, which I hear is about $250. I just ended up putting carpet padding in between them and then topping it off with carpet, but truth be told it's still a lymph floor. You could cut out pieces of OSB board first, that would make it a lot less lumpy. It doesn't bother me that much though because I made a bed in the back tall enough to slide totes under, and got a pretty nice thick piece of carpet remnant that I cut out for the floor the exact size.

How do the plastic end caps come off? Nothing helpful happens when I try to turn the plastic flat head "screw".

The outside rails are easily removable. There are 3 size 50 Torx bolts and one 14mm bolt on each one. They are reachable from the inside.

@@tybrady4598I’ve done it. Nothing crazy if you have a FWD: for outer rails use T50s (bolts are under carpet) and 14mm (holds 2nd row seatbelts). Inner rails are held by 17mm nuts, that could be reached from UNDERNEATH the vehicle. If you have a AWD as I do, removing left side inner rail would be challenging: you’d have to drop your gas tank. Make sure it’s empty or close to empty, release first two tank supports starting from hood (13 or 14mm), don’t touch the third support yet, unscrew cover adjacent to the tank tubes (front of vehicle) (10mm). Use 17mm wrench from LEFT side of tank. When first nut is out, secure first (from hood to trunk) support , and release the last, so you have access to remaining 3 nuts. Unscrew them with 17mm socket from RIGHT side of tank. When 4 nuts are out, just pull the rail out. Don’t forget to screw the tank supports back.

@@euroresourceauto Is it possible to just side the trolleys out without taking out the tracks? I'd rather not have to try and fill the gaps where the trolleys were, I want to just put plywood over that front section in front of my bed/couch and have it all flat.

@@brianrolfsen9487not possible. If you slide them back, you would have to cut and grind 3rd row seat locks. If you slide them forward - there’s not enough space to take them out because horizontal beam is in your way. You could just 3d print the plugs, and have those holes filled.

I've seen one video to remove the tracks and they had to remove the front seat to slide them out.

It was just too much work. In the end, I put wood floors that needed to lift over the rails to be level. So it worked out fine.

I anchored a low platform to it for my fridge. It can now be moved back/forwards if needed for front passenger legroom, and it gives a bit of storage under the fridge (shoes, cast iron pan)
