That Honkytonk setup puts rivets in front of the hammers. I had that setup on my Aeolian Player. I never used it or liked it as it will destroy the hammers all for the sake of making the piano sound tinny and out of tune. But Aeolian manufacturers had the brains of putting a lever out of the way that didn't interfere with the kneeboard removal

Thanks for your step by step instruction this piano your stripping is identical to the crown ombinola I bought from Eastwood pianos on Gumtree who when delivered, the men smashed it severally damaging the upper housing, front lid, the upper lid it tipped over in the truck breaking the pedals & so on then I got thumbs up from Robbo refunded me $100 and up ur nose with the hose...... I contacted Sydney dealers but none wanted to regulate this piano as it was over adjusted and played improperly. Watching you I learnt to regulate, adjust the keys, straighten and fixed all the broken fixtures and my player works better now and its a fabulous piano now thanks to you and these amazing videos on Utube absolutely Fabulous I fixed it myself and its beauty so thanks Utube I have a great piano

This mechanism looks vastly different from the one on my niece's husband's player piano. That piano has rubber tubes everywhere. You can actually put a temperament strip in place in order to tune this piano. It looks as if you don't have to take anything out if all you want to do is tune it.

I bought a set of hammers from Ragland Piano. As luck would have it they screwed up and bored the hammers oversize by .018 inches. My hammer shanks are.216 the hammers are all .234. Do you now sell a set of adaptor sleeves so I can install these new hammers? I could have bought a previously owned set of hammers from E-bay for 1/10th the cost and they would have fit perfectly

Sorry Roger, I don't have any sort of an adapter that will work. BTW, the sleeve you'd need would have to have a wall thickness of only about 1/128" (0.008"). I can't think of anything that could be fashioned into a sleeve that's that thin. Also, if they bored the wrong size, why not return them?

Hi John. I have a Problem. I removed the air motor of my 1912 Steck Player Piano. I tried to screw it back into place and one screw is stripped. Wood powder came with the screw. How can i fix it?
@johnatuttle
@johnatuttle 6 жыл бұрын
The proper way to fix the problem is to drill out the hole and glue in a piece of dowel rod (cut to length). Then pilot drill the dowel rod to the correct size for the screw and screw it back in normally. A less involved process is to go to the hardware store and get the same size screw that's 1/4" longer and use that screw in the hole that stripped out.

I had that happen to me and easily fixed it with Cyanoacrylate/Superglue. put a little on a Q-tip shank or dowel about that size and coat the inside of the stripped hole the spray with glue accelerator and you are good to go. Tip... whenever you fasten things back together, never just screw the screw in, ALWAYS turn the screw backward until you feel/hear a distinctive click or you will continue to strip out the threads in anything you are reassembling after you feel that click continue to tighten the screw

THANKS JOHN got ur message I'm right now your fabulous instructions did the job, I studied your procedure's and the commentary was excellent answering all my questions to my problems as the piano you were stripping is identical to the Crown Ombinola so thanks for your hep, the problem with my Crown piano after it fell over in the truck on deliver sustained severe injuries but I too am a restoration genius and from Bill the piano tuner, U and the regulator& more experts on Utube saved the day and I did the necessary adjustments, straightened the keys and regulated the piano myself. The tuning is great its not out of tune. Someone over adjusted the screws on the keys and they were all over tight to why it played like crap now she plays well, the bridal straps are in good nick most of the piano is OK just need a lid felt and I used countersunk Dina bolts to fix the pianola upper housing, the mounting bolts had stripped threads now its sealed all is restored I have a fab piano and I got it cheap but the information here on Utube is fab U guys are great. I too am a restorator but need help I have consulted the expert piano dealers in Sydney and not one was interested to assist so I had to do it myself and thanks to Utube I did it myself and to hell with those dealers they are greedy they missed out. thank you ever so much
