Sorry, you don’t watch LOTR. First, you read The Hobbit, then the trilogy. Then, after reading them again, you catch the movies. 😂

Or In my case, you get the computer adventure game The Hobbit first, and get stuck, (I think it was the two trolls right near the start) so you decide the answers might be in the book, so you read that and enjoy it (but despite that helping, still never quite finish the game despite getting to practically the end many times, but can never get the guy to shoot the dragon with the bow somehow in the very last bit!) then a few years later you try to watch the cartoon/live action LOTR version and decide it’s not good - so you forget it for years despite everyone saying how amazing the LOTR books are. Then the films come out a few decades later, so you go and watch them because everyone is hyped about them, and after finding the first one boring on the first watch, slowly get convinced after the 2nd one it is good, so you finally try reading the books… …and hate it. It’s the only thing I have ever started reading that I simply couldn’t get to the end of. I tried repeatedly for maybe 6 months in multiple goes at it, before giving up and then never go back to it…. I don’t know what it is - I just don’t get on with Tolkien’s writing in LOTR even though I enjoyed The Hobbit. The stories are great as I enjoy them in film (I’ve bought them in lots of formats and watched them dozens of times and would happily watch them again right now), but his writing…not for me. So - just saying, the books seem to work for a lot of people, but are certainly not for everyone, and the films can still be enjoyed without them :)
