Even as a bass-baritone, I am continuously inspired by Renee Fleming's voice and emotional interpretation. I think it absolutely stunning that she adds her own flavor to this piece. The purpose of performance is to make a piece your own, not to mimic other popular performers in the process, and I think that Ms. Fleming is one of the most original and inventive artists in the world today. I truly love her, and next time she comes to Rochester, NY, I'm going to meet her! =)

The little nuances she puts in between some of the words... it's absolutely breathtaking. For example, right after "je" in "je revais le bonheur." And the lilt she does in the middle of "des songes." And my personal favorite, connecting "radieuse" to "Reviens" and squeezing every little bit out of that "Reviens." Thank you for posting this stunning rendition. And Renee, thank you for your artistry! Gideon from Manila, Philippines

This was so beautiful. Her crescendos and descrescendos gave me life. The lightness in her tone and the enchanting feel that I get from her voice, incredible! This woman is amazing.

Ow my goodness, I'd like so much to hear her in person! So congrat. for you, and enjoy it a lot! and thank u for the comment! :)

There is only one and only soprano who has reached perfection in Après un rêve: Régine Crespin. Ninon Vallin is another one. Fleming has a gorgeous voice, but despite all her glorious vocal projection, she is over-doing it and French enunciation lacks the indispensable crisp and fresh "squillo" that is required. Otherwise, of course it's sumptuous.

Anyone who doesn't love this must be an idiot of some kind or another. Renee "owns" this song. 'not sure what francophiles think of it, but this lady is beyond fabulous.

@lmsubramaniam I do agree with Imsubramaniam, she is scooping all over the place. She does have a beautiful voice, and I would love to hear her sing this song sans scooping. Despite the tremendous beauty of her voice, she does ruin the style. In listening to her, the continual scooping gets in the was and is rather disturbing. Ok, it does seem to be something particular to Renée. It does not disturb me as much in opera, but here it is definitely contrary to the style.

Beautiful voice, but It's too slow and too loud for my taste : not dreamy enough. My favorite versions still remain Gens & Stutzmann.

Beautiful voice marred by “Jazzy” (her favourite descriptor) scoops which ruin this particular aria.

@chueca15 жыл бұрын
lmusubramaniam is right, scooping i this repertoire is completely wrong. Fleming displays her lack of understanding of the style of Faure. Her sentimental approach puts herself first and the the song second, unforgiveable in a supposed great singer, an all too common manner of ¨interpretation¨ these days
@grandisdavid13 жыл бұрын
@lmsubramaniam15 жыл бұрын
WILL SHE EVER STOP SCOOPING? this style of music specifically should not have the kind of scooping she gives. yuck! she sounds like shes wailing.
@dapheneo13 жыл бұрын

Can YOU do what she does ? What do you know about french art of singing? About the music of Fauré ? Fleming just showed she knows nothing !
