The National Institutes of Health studies the mind of one of the world's greatest singers, Renée Fleming. NIH Director Francis Collins speaks to the ongoing efforts to better understand the processes and impact of music in the brain.
Sound Health is an ongoing collaboration between the Kennedy Center and the NIH, in association with the National Endowment for the Arts, that seeks to explore the intersection between music, the brain and wellness. Spearheaded by Artistic Advisor at Large Renée Fleming, Sound Health brings together leading researchers, music therapists and arts practitioners to better understand the impact of arts on the mind and body.

Work with people with Dementia. For 30 years I have known that music can touch even when all other skills are lost

Have you seen the movie called The Music never stopped. About a guy who completely loses one of his hemispheres. As long as the music he used to listen to when he was younger is playing. There's absolutely nothing wrong with. So true about dementia. When my mother plays her favourite music. She taps her foot. 🙂

People with Alzheimer’s and dementia forget many things but none lose their ability to play music and remember music/songs of their past.

Seems like they weren't allowed to show the live brain activity. They just had 3 black squares. Any progress in this field since?
