I've not had a healthy day, a day without oain and exhaustion, for over 25 years. It's become slowly worse. I've followed Ren's story since those health vlogging days and it gives me so much hope to see him back out there in the world. And he speaks up for us, trapped in small worlds still being tortured by uncertainty. Having him be an advocate is incredible, as he is so good at raising awareness is a way that centres the human experience instead of being preachy or the "misfortune Olympics". I love seeing him doing so well and being so alive. Right before he released Hi Ren he re-shared one of his health vlogs when he was scared and desperate. It's so hard to watch, but there is hope in it too. Knowing how things have improved for him. He is living proof that things can change for the better however desperate they seem. I try to remember that on the bad days. I'm very lucky not to be depressed. I have terrible anxiety because of the health stuff being so dramatic and chaotic, but somehow don't have depression. I think a lot of it is down to acceptance. Bitterness is the most poisonous emotion, in my experience. Even hate has a purpose at times and can be motivating, but bitterness is insidious. I let myself feel everything else, let it come and go, but I don't let bitterness have time to bed in. I acknowledge it and try to break it down into the components that led to it to process those instead.

Everyone feels like this about Ren. We all want to meet him. We would bleed him dry! He actually touches on this topuc with the Charismatic Voice. Hus ability to connect and express our feelings along with hus humor, humilty and sensitivity, leaves him in a very vulnerable place. The Renegades spend some emotional energy trying to control and monitor our expectations of him. I'm glad you could see this. You really are not alone.

Im glad you opened up cause I could tell you were uncomfortable when you started. I’m 71 years old and went thru mental health issues in my 30’S. During those years, being put into the psych ward of the hospital for cutting my wrist was embarrassing. I needed help but did not get it, just pills. So I lied and smiled all the time, I’m fine. Yet I still think about leaving this world and deal with depression off and on. That is why REN means so much to me where he talks about his physical and mental issues. Not many men would be strong enough to cry and show his pain. Times have changed since my breakdown 40 years ago, where mental issues are talked about now, yet sadly some things are still the same. I hope that you having the strength to open up on air will help you.

This is one of the better interviews of Ren I've seen. Zach did an excellent job in my opinion.
@ranahooke190711 ай бұрын
22:17 What I think. I appreciate when people are open and talk about their struggles. Not because it glorifies mental health issues in any way.. but because it makes me feel less alone. Connected to other strangers who have been through similar things. Loneliness can kill. And depression/anxiety creates isolation and loneliness. Seeing and hearing others who have been through it and are doing better now, also gives hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel so to speak. But what it really comes down to is this. Does it benefit YOU to talk through your shit publicly? Or does that bring new challenges that you aren’t comfortable or well enough to deal with? I love hearing bits of your story. But I also only want to hear them if that is beneficial to you in some way. ❤

Been on this journey for nearly a year now and it’s been amazing to see it all come together. I found Ren when nothing was making any sense. Having immersed myself as a die hard fan and entrenching myself in the community he’s created has really been beneficial to my mental health and overall lifestyle. Ren is a really special human being. I can’t wait to see what’s coming next.

I think the most important thing is to be authentic, as much as you can be. Be really true to who you are. People can feel that. Take Ren as an example. One of the things that draws people to him is that he shows many of his sides without apology. If he's choked up, he might cry. He's also funny, he's also serious when it comes to societal issues. That's what people like. Real and authentic which cannot be faked. I can tell when you're real. Those are the moments that I feel connected with your content.
@SuperChrisDub11 ай бұрын
I would have forgotten, as well! This is fascinating. I had mental health issues for which I still cannot pinpoint a cause. Social anxiety starting from about 8 then what I know to be depression. Because it should not have been happening, it was pretty much, "Pull your socks up, you've got nothing to be unhappy about!" which, to other people, was true. I was ungrateful. That alienated me from my father completely by my teen years which was devastating because up until then he had been a great dad. I think he thought he was doing the right thing by me. Trying to toughen me up because he knew the world is tough. He did it out of love not seeking to bully me or abuse me. I saw that later but at the time I grew to hate him and he died before I came to that realisation which saddens me. The lack of medical intervention. Therapy, I guess, led me to self-medicate and that did not end well. I was given all sorts of meds as a young man but I remember one called amytriptaline with the emphasis on trip. Hallucinations, finding myself somewhere without knowing how I got there was such fun. So yes, Ren I know a little of which you talk but I think my experience was not as bad as yours.

I really appreciate that you stopped and took the time you needed, and then finished this interview. It was interesting hearing your perspective, and I very much related to parts of it. I applaud what you said about using certain terms that people are uncomfortable with. I am on that soapbox all the time. I don't think you can erase the sigma of something when you can't even say the correct word. It's not the term that is the problem. I also understand what you said about not making your channel about mental health. I have a chronic illness, and I feel the same way. I don't want it to be what my life is about. It doesn't define me. It's part of me, so it's gonna leak in, but it's not who I am. I really enjoy your reactions, both the funny ones, and the ones that are more like this. If you want to do more Ren interviews, I'd be interested in watching them. The one with The Charismatic Voice is great, but I think my favorites are the 2 interviews with Knox Hill. It was obvious they had an instant connection, and they talked about a lot of interest topics. Really, any interview Ren does is worthwhile, but I would recommend those two as top priority. IMO, of course. Last thing, it's nice that you appreciate what a joy kids are. They sure do make your life better.

Thank you. I get not wanting to talk about it. Living in the darkness all the time can get to be too much. But. Every once in a while, sharing a good. I don’t know. I shared with you before about my struggles with the medical industry, my own and my mom’s with c diff. It helps to know we aren’t alone. The older I get, the more I compartmentalize. It makes life easier in general but at the same time, I feel numb. Sharing puts me back in deeper in touch with our shared humanity. But it is scary. So, thank you for sharing your humanity with me. With us. ❤

Regarding getting subscribers off your mental health journey: ‘You’ is what makes you unique on KZbin. Without letting people into your life (or at least a moderated version of it), it’s hard to really connect or care about you and your channel and what you do here. You might be fine with that. Not everyone needs a bunch of strangers from the Internet clogging up their mental space. If it doesn’t feel right to share some things yet, then fine. Maybe in the future you’ll feel like offloading some burden, and that’ll be fine too. It won’t make you a ‘mental health’ channel, but never say never. 👊

Thank you for bringing up how important diet is! What we eat is literally the foundation of our health. About 6 years ago i cut out all processed foods. I only eat meat, butter, salt, a few veggies and some berries on occasion. It was absolutely life changing. I feel better at 41 than i did in my 20s. I lost 65lbs and have so much more energy. I sleep better. I came off all painkillers, depression, and anxiety meds. Chronic migraine attacks, back pain and PCOS symptoms all gone! I found a whole community of people that also improved their lives by changing their diet. The "carni/ketovore" community is amazing and so supportive and loving...just like my Renegades ♥️♥️ I really enjoy your reactions. Ren changed my life just as much a my diet did. Loved your reaction, and how true you are, so keep it up man. Share what you want to share, speak your truth, and you'll see that authenticity always finds the audience.T This is a good interview, and tbh, Zack's voice irks me too lol. Sounds like a "fake voice" which girls do more often then men, and when he gets carried away he almost forgets to use that tone so he sounds a bit more natural... But it was a good interview, and I'm glad you did it. Sure would be interested in seeing you react to more of those, if you so choose. Regarding the medical professionals... well... one of them at one point told me: "medicine is not an exact science, you know". Dang. Right. It is empirical, so trial/error based. Dang... And yeah, please do the Patience piece, there is a very old recording of Ren doing it on camera which somehow hits me deeper, it's titled "Patience | Ren Gill | M.E" on Aysha Jones's channel And also a bit of Ren's philosophy, a video titled "TRICK THE FOX- A Poem By Ren" It is on Trick the fox channel. Both of these are "a baby Ren" pieces, but they do show his core beliefs and what kind of character he has in his essence. A wise soul. Take care, brother! Love and respect!

Ha. Should listen before jumping in with, “ooh I know!” English major doesn’t come in handy that often in such an obvious way.. Also, you say you’re not “super educated” but you were taught how to think and I think maybe that’s the most superb education one can have. Critical thinking and Latin.. my kids joke that all I care about is reasoning and Latin and there’s truth in that. How to think and a cornerstone foundation in the language we speak is in my opinion the best one can hope for out of the education years. For what it’s worth, you have those things and the most important trait of all: enough humility to allow for self reflection and course correction. Keep on that way and listen a lot and I think you’re on the road to wisdom .. my theory anyway. Just wanted you to know that this uncomfortable window you’ve opened up online allows for us to see you and reflect back positivity. By the way 2: kindness to yourself!! The comedic reactions are a bit much after the first couple. Self-flagellation can be addictive and not in the best way. I’m sure you know that. I personally think you’re not giving enough of the confident side to balance out the time spent tearing yourself down. Just my POV of course. You’ve reason to like yourself, too, and I hope you do. Be well. ❤️

@SuperChrisDub11 ай бұрын
I made a comment already but I don't think it stuck so sorry if this is a repeat. I think that you don't want to have a channel where people commiserate with each other on their unhappiness, or have your own pity party, rather than try to fix it. If mental health comes up, you want to use the moment to spread positivity, let people know that they can heal themselves and help them with that if you can. In fact, I would expect nothing less from you now! If you see yourself as a victim, it is like you have given away your agency to do anything about it and then it is all but impossible to remedy the situation. I've been there, trust me, and it is hard to see a way out but emotions are temporary. If you work to change your situation then you, at least, have a chance to feel better. It can give you hope which in itself can help you through the hard times. You and Ren are so right about the gut. I have a mate who cured his own clinical depression by changing his diet and now he is super careful and serious about what he eats. Unfortunately, there is no money to be made off healthy people by the medical industrial complex. Got Type 2 diabetes? Take these tablets. How long for, doc? The rest of your life. They are weaponizing childhood medical conditions against caring parents. The earlier you get them, the more money to be had. Every condition requires expensive tests, drugs, treatments or therapy. I am not saying these things do not have their place but they are always the answer? 100% of the times. This is nothing to do with the gut but when I was in my 20s, I started getting pain in my shoulder which got to the point that I could hardly do my job. I went through loads of conventional treatments, no of which helped. Finally, in desperation, I left a friend to acupuncture on me. I told him I did no believe in it and did not expect it to work. He told me 4 sessions would be enough. I never went to the fourth because I was cured. Just putting it out there.

Hi, commenting 8 months later when this reaction popped up. The bottom line (pun intended) is: allopathic medical practice = BigPharma profit; Functional/Holistic practice doesn't treat a symptom as the disease but only as one clue on the path to Wellness. You have it right - ancestral diet and exercise is preventative and curative; mind and body are one symbiotic organ. I have rid myself of several relatively minor ailments by changing my diet to Paleo-style several years ago; I sometimes wonder what my health would be like now at 71 if I hadn't stumbled upon a book called Trick & Treat (by Barry Groves), then Bad Pharma and Bad Science by Dr Ben Goldacre. I need to catch up on all your reactions now! Woohoo!

If you suffer from anxiety energy drink is like pouring gasoline on that shit, dude. I'd consider cutting out all that stuff if I were you. I used to suffer from depression and anxiety for years. Constant suicidal ideation. I quit smoking cigarettes, completely cut out caffeine and removed sugar from my diet (as in added sugar). My depression and anxiety went away completely. Like totally fucking gone. I won't put that garbage in my system anymore. There's a lot of people out there, I bet, that are similar and are causing their own mental health problems without realising it. It annoys me that doctors don't put enough emphasis on diet. The one time I went to the doctor for depression, the appointment lasted about five minutes and he prescribed some pills to me. No questions about my lifestyle, nothing. I never took what he gave me. Made me lose trust that they know what they're doing at all when it comes to mental health. I found my own way out by researching nutrition and stuff. Good reaction by the way, bro. Enjoyed this a lot.
@toniyoung513111 ай бұрын
I absolutely agree with you about nutrition. People sympathise that Ren's diet is restricted, which I concur with to a small degree, but as you say, if more people looked for info about what affects their body they'd all be eating a more natural food and cutting out the processed crap. Whether you eat meat (as I do) or follow a plant based diet (which I don't ) you'll benefit from not putting unnatural stuff in your body.
@DistractedArachnid11 ай бұрын
@@toniyoung5131Totally. I think a lot of people that eat junk have this false perception that they'd be depriving themselves of enjoyment from food if they remove processed food from their life. Thing is, once I cut all that out I enjoy food way more now than I ever did before. My taste buds became so much more sensitive to more natural ingredients. Taste in food is completely trainable, in my opinion. If you remove junk food, after a certain period you lose all desire for it.
