after watching this i listened to Blue Sugar again and the lyrics suddenly took on a whole new meaning that i hadn’t noticed before :’) who knew that such a happy-sounding, upbeat song had its roots in a rough period in ren’s life, that makes my respect for him increase tenfold fr i’m glad he is where he is now

Same. I’m so glad he’s much better now and that the song is so happy sounding even if it stems from such a hard time that we’ve all been through somewhere in our life. So happy he’s part of Nijisanji EN!!!

Yeaaah, and you what it kinda reminds me for Lemon from Kenshi Yonezu. His song was kinda upbeat but the lyric is kinda sad. And when i know the fact about that song was wrote it for his grandpa/father who passed away before that song got released, that song was even more hurting.

Ever since a few years back i never really take happy and upbeat songs as truly being happy and upbeat. I've noticed with a lot of Songs (mostly Vocaloid or Japanese ones, but that's also a huge part of my Music-Library) that the Song may be Upbeat and 'happy' sounding, but the lyrics are about people in a rough place or with mental conditions etc. Like.. Look no further than DECO*27. A lot of those sound very upbeat and happy but topic minor and major things. Cinderella for example sounds quite upbeat and happy, but the lyrics are kind of about a Girl who just hates herself and feels 'not enough' for the one she has a crush on.

I personally love blue sugar not only because it’s simply a good song but it’s a song by someone that I’m inspired by and love. It’s also a song that I can relate to and not cry while listening to it. We all have had times in our lives when everything simply wasn’t ok. I’m still going threw those stages in my life but I’m glad that I can listen to this song without getting emotional

When I began to look into blue sugar more I slowly did looking between the lines of the lyrics and thanks to Ren I feel like these lyrics tell a story like he said of being alive and finding true passion in something. Its lyrics also just scream "hey I procrastinate and have no motivation anymore" in a light way (i don't mean it at all in a rude way)

Why does this man reminds me of Porter Robinson specifically, even his voice. Anyways, this type of struggles are very common for musicians especially composers, and im speaking from experience. And yes it sucks. Context: Porter is an edm producer / musician (mostly emotional and melodic). He has gone through difficult time after his first album and live shows gain huge success. He struggles with creative block while fearing that he can never recreate or surpassed his previous works and will never create something as good. Untill he made his second album which has more personal concepts as well. And now he's back on track.

ok, some ahem promotion on a song-- hearing ren say this reminds me of this song called Alien by Han from SKZ! that song is about feeling alone, and well, like an "alien" who doesn't fit in with the humans on earth. it's a song about just being exhausted of life and being in a dark mindset in your life. basically, if you like blue sugar then give alien a listen too!
@elementalcolors4977 Жыл бұрын
"I want that that blue sugar high" and here he says he wanted to feel alive again with this song. So when he describes how therapeutic music is, I really want to believe the "sugar high" is exactly that--music. For the "blue" part, I'm subscribed to the popular fan theory that it's related to our planet Earth which Ren arrived on and lore-wise, it's here that he discovered music. Now to say music is his "high" may not be the deepest interpretation, but it does check of all of boxes and is honestly one of the healthiest highs imo. The right song can hit you where it feels best, address what's in your choice, and even connect you with an audience who will love it. I do have other thoughts that follow this, but I'm still organizing them and I shared enough of my insight on Blue Sugar for now.

It's interesting that I've understood the meaning of the song before seeing this, some of us were like Ren before in our lives. Ren saying music can be like therapy is actually true, It's very helpful

When i heard of the song, the was the music is so upbeat but the lyrics were different from how the music protrayed. The music went well with the lyrics not to say it was bad but I was confused with this part of the lyrics,“To cut me up, paint my inside”. I’m guessing “to cut me up” meaning him(Ren) criticizing and bringing himself down. And the last part, “paint my inside”, it sound weird out of context. I’m really stuck on that part of the meaning. I want to understand what it mean but I really don’t know.
@moonythespoonie95512 жыл бұрын
My two cents on "cut me up, paint my insides", read this or don't (be warned it gets VERY heavy): Looking back on my own experiences with depression, one thing that was really big, and I don't know if it's a depression thing or just a me thing, was that during my depressive episodes, when my mind would fog over, my body was the only way I could really feel much of anything. So I, at least, read that line as wanting to feel something, either by physicalizing the pain so it's easier to wrap your head around ("cut me up") or by drowning it out with sensation ("paint my insides"). That may well be completely different from Ren's original intent, but it's what I hear.
@seufimeaqui90342 жыл бұрын
I noticed the deep meaning right away actually.. since i only listen to songs with deep meanings or that make a deep meaning in my head, such as sugar crash and god-ish
