A perspective from a 61 year old woman who clearly did not grow up with Social media : social media is now dominating our lives . The way we interact with each other is new and different -- so our laws need to be as well . I feel like , unfortunately , this may be only the beginning of more treachery concerning crimes/relationships and social media . It's time for the lawmakers to look at what's going on around them in 2022 .

I am a 66 year old lady. I agree with you 100% . I live in America and have read stories where women are cat fished into remortgaging their homes to help out a person who is not what they say they are. It happens a lot in Malaysia where guys spend all day trying to find the nice sweet widow that they can scam. They put up a picture of a person maybe from a magazine but say it’s them. Of course these people say they are widowed and supposedly one child in the teens. But this is what people will do all day trolling for a widow they can manipulate ! It’s deplorable! Mankind needs rules as they can be terrible at being good human beings

Our Canadian law just found a Dutch man guilty of stalking, harassing and tormenting and blackmailing a young Canadian teenage girl to the point of taking her own life. He was sentenced to 13 years. Apparently he had been doing this to many young girls in different countries. The laws must make them accountable for their despicable actions while they hide behind the internet.

Renée's Law needs to happen. Females develop close bonds growing up, often in pairs. If one has the intent of a romantic bond, knowing the other shows no romantic interest, then that kind of deceit is deliberate and destructive. Because, what one thinks is caring friendship advice is really coercive control. Its in the same catagory as stalking. This happened to me and it lasted years before it escalated. I felt so violated and worse, I realised all the times she was advising me, she had alternative motives. I'm still avoiding her and she still makes contact with family members. The difference is I'm older and we didn't have all the technology there is today. There was also a very similar situation with a rising South American star whose so called best friend (really decietful lover wannabe) who became possessive and jealous and shot the singer. So I do hope Renée's Law is passed, and that there is more education on this topic along with more clarification. This kind of deception, when it includes behaviours like stalking and coercive control, could happen to any young person and it can ruins lives.

My guess is that since it was a clear case of suicide, whoever was in charge of this case just didn't care much about the contents of the phone thinking it was meaningless. I am so sorry that your life ended without knowing the truth. As a mother, I too have a good relationship with my daughter. I can imagine how difficult it is for Mrs. Marsden. For all the girls out there, if a relationship ends, it may mean there is something else better waiting for you down the road. The hurt is only temporary. Choice to talk to you love ones, cry, eat, do shopping, running, whatever but do not let yourself be alone and push yourself to a dead end. Whatever Carmela did was unforgivable. She may not be sentenced by the law but in the heart of many, she is the one who caused Ranae's death.

Fabrication and impersonating a person to manipulate the feelings and actions of Renae, surely there has to be a crime somewhere there. Poor Renae and her family. What is there to stop someone else doing this again. The police should have put a hold on the messages on Renae's phone, Even just as a precaution.

Renae’s mental health was already fragile if she actively chose to carry on an 18-month relationship with a convict in prison for manslaughter. Was this Camilla ever investigated for possible homicide in this sad case? It seems extremely suspicious to me - Renae leaving her shoes behind - keeping her cell phone on her but leaving the old one behind- the final text messages. This psychopath Camilla had been impersonating people, lying. manipulating. physically abusive. Why on earth wouldn't anyone suspect or investigate her possible involvement in poor Renae's death? Can someone please answer this question, it seems so obvious to me!
@queenv7053
@queenv7053 Жыл бұрын
My thoughts exactly! And it seems odd that Renae would get dressed and put on makeup before she left if she had that plan all along. I definitely have a strong suspicion that Camilla was involved, even when the mom first explained Camilla’s behavior that night it sounded odd. Camilla hadn’t tried to call or worry about Renae after getting that text? Also, why would Camilla be one of two or three people she texted before she jumped if Renae didn’t even want to be friends with her? So weird.

Excatly my thoughts as well. Did the useless police Atleast trace where Camila's phone pinged at the time renea allegedly committed suicide? And I don't buy that the police couldn't trace the messages Camila deleted off her phone. The police should have asked that 13 year old boy to retrieve those messages..I bet he would have been able to do that and more. It seems so obvious to me that Camila pushed renea off the cliff and staged the scene for suicide. Camila was probably enraged because renea had decided to cut off their friendship and that could have been her motive for murder. Studies show that the risk of getting murdered is the highest when the victim tells their abuser they want to break up/divorce. This scenario applies to Camila's deranged psyche in how she sees renea(as a romantic interest).

Such a horrible story. Jealousy is such an evil thing. Renee was a lovely young lady ❤

Single white female 😐 I had a stalker who used to be a friend. The torment went on for 22 years. I changed my name, moved states, and she still found me. I’m so glad we didn’t have social media in the 80’s n 90’s-00’s. She found me on Facebook two years ago…. The problem was solved this time around 😐 Scary stuff. Looking over my shoulder and constantly checking the security in my life was exhausting. I’m glad it’s over now

It strikes me as a great failure of the educational system but also of Renae's parents not to have installed a bs detector in her mind. This is something that must be taught by the educational system including parents: How do you cross-check and verify claims? How do you detect fakery? How do you uncover bs stories? Mastering these skills is much more important today than at any time in the past because of the insane amount of bs, fakery, spam, scam and other garbage that reaches all users of the internet on a daily basis. Basically those are research skills and the ability to think independently and thus see what's actually going on. And in terms of the internet the only acceptable attitude is to mistrust anything that comes from there and mistrust with extreme prejudice anything you cannot verify. Given Renea's naivety her parents should have assisted her in those skills. I am astonished that her parents didn't get very suspicious about the fb messages they were apparently receiving from Braydon and the kind of messages he wrote. Instead of pulling away, her mum could have dug a bit deeper even without telling her daughter about her research work into this story. Apart from verifying Braydon's photo her parents knew where Braydon was supposedly imprisoned and for what reason. One short call to the prison authorities telling them that they were getting disturbing fb messages from an inmate named Braydon would have blown this story wide open. Add to that the fact that the wider Marsden family knew about nutty Camila and the fact that she told bs stories it would have been not so difficult to put two and two together.
