On a personal note: I was extremely fortunate to experience and witness the early days of House Music myself from 1990 onwards - aged 16. Then, nightlife and the subsequent lifestyle sucked me in and they were truly times of pure ecstatic excitement and adventure, and then to also watch it evolve in all kinds of subgenres; one more tantalizing than the other. I will never forget it.
The music felt like it was both energetic and magical, and more than once it was like an escape. DJ’s grew into celebrities right in front of your eyes, and if they were any good, they would take you on a long and mysterious journey through the dark night. And sometimes day.
Don’t get me wrong, I love all my fellow Dutch DJ’s and others who are so popular, but the music now simply cannot be compared to that of 15 - 30 years ago. DJ Sets would often have a start, a buildup that sometimes would go on for hours, and a hefty climax.
Nowadays, a track has to immediately start with a chorus, or have one within 15 seconds from the start, otherwise kids get bored and skip to the next track on their Spotify. That seems to be the sad, current state of the music industry.
They’ll probably never experience a music scene like it was back then, full of addictive energy from a new music genre that was quickly taking over the world, one beat at a time.
Consider these uploads from the Progressive House genre (one of my favorites) like some sort of testimony from an era gone by. These mixes will always stick with me.

1998, or thereabouts. This CD was on the playlist of an airline who's name escapes me, that flew me and several mates to Greece for a fortnight of unforgettable 17 year old debauchery. For me the Starecase mix of under the water will forever be the anthem of that trip. What a time..what a remix. What a master Seaman was.

First of all there isnt a vol 2., and Dave Seaman made this and he is not from canada he is from the U.K. and so is Renaissance this was from their U.S. tour they were a clubbing experience in England and was the first to release a cd mix series.

I used to listen to it at Swim meets along with many other Progressive mixes and Drum n Bass mixes to pump me up before my races. Or when I wanted to get stoned and enjoy some good beats

Prog mixes - always spoiled with shitty cringe vocal tunes. Danny Howells' first essential mix is brilliant. Not one shitty vocal tune. Prog club music vocals used to be sexy like Cardiac Swing.
