I made an Elenora of Toledo gown once, I wished I had kept better track at where I put the skirt pattern because I've found myself making another and I'm Frankensteing it thinking it's going to be hideous but then I realized piecing is a thing with the time frame of this garment and I realize Im doing it right just in a wonky version of piecing lol.

The dress is beautiful. The skirt is beautiful. "Perfect" however one defines it is the enemy of accomplishing anything. You've accomplished something splendid.

It's looking so pretty, even with the unexpected bumps in the road. I'm really enjoying seeing all the elements come together and absolutely adore the bell movement you get with the skirt over the farthingale.

It's wonderful seeing how the different elements (which can seem over the top on their own) balance eachother so beautifully when put together. Hope you find a skirt length solution that you're satisfied with.

It really is. The Italians were exceptionally good at blending all sorts of patterns and making it seem effortless.

I would keep it the length it is now. I think you'll get more use out of it in the long run rather than going "Oh I love this dress but I really don't feel like wearing chopines today/this weekend". When I make a dress that is "chopine length" it is probably not going to be out of a fabric I'm very attached to and it will probably get shortened after the first year.

This is how I’m leaning as well. There’s just a part of me that really likes to get as close to the research as possible. But close is probably going to be “walkable skirt length”.

Thanks! Me too. I know I’ll be happy with it once I’m done. I just need to get to the done part, which is the toughest part of the process.

@@dsathreads Getting to 'done' is always the hardest part of the process. You'll get there, I have all faith...

just a thought....could you piece a band to the waist band for added length? Then restitch the waistband into the bodice? Thereby adding length but not messing with the train/hemline?

I don’t know if I want to un-gather all that fabric lol.

@@dsathreads Yeah that’s a lot of work. Lol But is there any extant or secondary sources where they were the chopines showcasing underneath the hem? Those chopines are too pretty to be hidden ;-)

Skip the shoes. You can always add an underskirt with chaupins, or wear without and be comfy. NO ONES GONNA KNOW
