Dr.Malik~ I'm do glad for your posts. Way late, but very much needed in our social environment. We here in the US are so sexually screwed up. Hope your show make a difference, keep up the great work.❤

A fascinating conversation. Historically the Western societies have repressed sex far more than what is healthy for our growth as people. This has adversely affected our thoughts, consciously and subconsciously, and has broken a lot of relationships. Thank you for your candid talks on the subject. Appreciate you and your work.

Couldn't agree more. It's sad, really. Hopefully we just keep getting more open and progressive with this stuff as a society and species instead of regressing or stagnating.

Before I even start the video I'm going to guess. Arousal is the neurophysiological reaction mediated by the central nervous system, and desire is the conscious psychological response mediated by higher brain centers.

Love the tangent/rant about the puritanical objection to sexual research in the US & Canada, what a bummer especially in 2024. Sadly no politician or decision maker will have much of an incentive to change this any time soon given the "culture war" implications of the subject.

@4:55 there is more scattering of light when the reflecting surface becomes more irregular, i.e. it changes to a more irregular shape. More blood flow may happen during arousal as well, but it is not directly causing more scattering, which reduces the level of light reflected back to the transmitter. Just say'n.

Dr. Malik, the last few minutes of this interview are the most interesting. South Asian females are SO much more better Research Lab partners for cross - culture with North America based sex education. Example: until recently, the Age of Concent in China was 10 years old. Its history has been in Chinese culture around for thousands of years; its purpose to keep Chinese Emporer's within - the - Family NAME! 😮

With respect, I agree we need more sexual education in schools. The ignorance people in general have about sexuality in general and reproduction in specific is wild. On the other hand, much of the sexual education literature I've encountered is more about sexual enabling. Sex ed starts in fifth grade. At that point, kids aren't mentally prepared to handle having sex. Even in prehistoric societies, those were children, not adults, and children are not meant to reproduce. Right now, we are fighting a culture war, as many people have pointed out, but the easiest, simplest methodology is to provide information on all of this. We need to provide that information completely, including the pros and cons surrounding these very sensitive issues. Just as an example, right now, any negative opinion of masturbation is generally dismissed as spurious or archaic, but as I understand, masturbation can lead to dysfunctions. So it, again as just an example, is not clearly and unequivocally positive, even from a strictly medical/psychological point of view, but most sexual education material either tacitly implies one should masturbate or outright instructs children on how to go about it. We need to create material vetted by physicians, psychologists, and other health professionals, uninfluenced by party politics and big business, which clearly outlines all of the concepts surrounding sexuality, specifically including significaytly increased information on reproduction.

😀💔 *3 men die and go to Heaven* St Peter looks at him and says "You were unfaithful to your wife 28 times. Don't worry, you'll be accepted in -- only you won't get a brand new car like those who were more loyal in their marriage" Confused the man asks "I get a car though?" St Peter replies "Of course. Everyone needs a car in heaven to get around. Only you'll be receiving a beat up old Ford Pinto " Meanwhile the man sees a couple of his old friends receiving their cars. The first guy had one minor affair during a rough patch in his marriage and was given a nice Toyota Camry. The second guy is granted a brand new Lamborghini for never even thinking about another woman other than his wife. All of a sudden, inside heaven, the man with the Ford Pinto starts crying. Concerned, his two friends check on him to ask him why he's so sad. He points to his wife who is riding around on a pair of roller skates.

As a Man, I was brought up multicultural and also multi sexual, being gay, straight and bisexual at different times in my life. In fact I have a European Canadian upbringing. I am also a male Nurse, working with women, further expanding my view on woman although more professional. Living in the United States for the last 30 years ( for my career) I felt very sexually repressed. But that was my choice. Now in my 60s I don't care that much about sex. But maybe I do because I visit my French Girlfriend in Canada quite often! Hey, thanks for the conversation! We need to progress sexually in the USA!

I love how so many of these studies use college kids as their sample. This is not representative of the population as even by today's standards, most high school graduates don't go, or graduate from college. Its just a quick and convenient method for survey groups to finalize their test surveys. Its kinda lazy when you think about it....

Pretty interesting. But one question. Why or how is racism related to not having sex? (No hate but i turned my head sideways on that one)
@KxNOxUTA5 ай бұрын
There are racial biases in regards to how ppl of those groups supposedly are and think etc. Which leads to their struggles not being addressed. And it's not about "not having sex". There are many sorts of biases from "these women supposedly are all great in bed" from "these women supposedly wouldn't even touch the topic". All of them can impact how easy or hard it is for them to get the correct support and how easy or hard it is to speak on a topic when they are aware of the existing biases and depending on what is shamed or expected in each bias group. To name a reverse racial bias: When I was in Japan, men would talk me up in the street and jump to sexual offers, as the bias is that Western women are more open than Asian women in regards to the topic. Which is ...... hilariously false even though they were right that I was fine having mature and simple talks about the topic but personally have 0 interest in hookups XDDDDDD If I lived in Japan, I might possibly run into problem when the expectation is "western women are experienced and open" and a shy western woman had to come in to speak on how they very much struggle with that expectation and it affects their ability to have intercourse with their current partner. And she could be faced with a doctor who is too blunt cause they work with a bias of "Western ppl don't get subtle communication". Or this bias could affect things like being suspected to have STIs regardless of saying you have no sexual experience and doctors investigating the wrong direction. These are just a few examples how different biases can affect communities when it comes to the topic.

Arousal: The body is in an elevated state which can be anything between "danger alert" to "state of high positive excitement". In terms of body: Physical reactions like flushing, swelling, dryness or lubrication (depends what and where and who and why). Desire: Aka "want to". Your body can be in a state of arousal without you desiring that: e.g. the body is pleased or stressed even though you do not want it to be either in your current situation if the situation does not fit the positive/negative state of excitement. (e.g. involuntary hard-ons or orgasms in random places. Protective lubrication and swelling during SA. Flushing in the face when you want to stay cool but your body still expressed your embarrassment or anger) You can have desire without arousal: people may want to get worked up positively or negatively and they feel the feelings but their body does not follow and does not get aroused for the correct reaction. (impotence or inability to get excited about sex regardless of wanting it as well as struggles with orgasm. Being unable to set boundaries and stop a situation regardless of wanting to.) Only if arousal and desire are both present AND positively aligned, that's when intercourse is fun AND legal (aka, not a crime.) You cannot know if both are present, without asking, because desire does not necessarily correlate with arousal AND arousal can be there but not complete, like in the case of illness (e.g. physical arousal is there but vaginal dryness due to age or illness may still require external support even though otherwise the body is "all in").

@KxNOxUTA5 ай бұрын
@@dmck_24 That is actually possible. The question is: Do you care for them or do you only care for what they can "do for you"?. Also: Do you care for yourself? Because if you struggle with self-esteem, then that can make interactions particularly awkward :3 There is a lot you can do. First of all you want to learn the basics of how to make female friends and how to regulate your emotions to keep it platonic. After that you'll have a network of ppl who can actually help you with troubleshooting when you proceed to the area of dating. Most importantly however: Make sure you are a feminist and work through your internal sexistic biases (which the majority of ppl regardless of gender will have by default cause that's a systemic issue). The better you understand what struggles women face in the world and what makes us really hyper-vigilant when it comes to relationship choices, the better you'll do. Especially when subconscious sexistic biases stop sabotaging your efforts. There's really a great lot in your power that you can actually do to improve your situation. Just please make sure you seek advice from ppl who are good at this (and not any of those women hating dudes out there giving terrible advice to their own male peers and taking their money while making the overall situation worse by the day ///orz///) If you need basic 1x1 instructions (which are not at all as simple as ppl suggest, if noone taught you) you might want to go over to HealthyGamerGG, because a real and modern psychiatrist is going over these struggles together with the community and really goes into the nitty gritty of "how to make friends" and "how to be less awkward in conversations" etc.
