Hi, thank you for sharing this video - it has been extremely insightful and informative. I made the mistake of not having my rug from the 70s cleaned before I removed the old backing off. I have finally chipped away at removing the original latex glue that was heavily caked on - I used a combination of a hammer and plastic scraper along with a heavy duty vacuuum for anyone who's interested (it's been a long, dusty journey - 9 out of 10 do not recommend). I plan on using the AAT 1132 without a backing as you demonstrated in the video. I live in Australia and managed to have a tub of AAT 1132 sent to me from the US (it is unavailable here). My question is: how long after applying the AAT 1132 can the rug be cleaned and does the cleaning process affect the glue at all? I worry that as we don't sell AAT 1132 in Australia if I bring it to a rug cleaner they won't feel confident cleaning it without a backing as they may not have encountered it before. Thank you for your time, if I could have brought my rug to you I would have 😢

This is so informative thank you so much! I bet this is a Pottery Barn rug because the same thing is happening to mine! Do you wash it before or after the backing and how much do you charge to do this?? I’m looking to have mine done

Thanks for your comment! I believe you are correct that it was a Pottery Barn rug, we see them pretty frequently! What we do is do a full washing to the rug first, which helps loosen the backing as well. Then when we are all done with the cleaning, we will re-do the backing. Typically our rate goes by the square foot, around $5.25 for cleaning with rug backing repair. This price will range from each area and business. Hopefully that helps!

How do you strip the old glue so u re glue it what did you use to take off the old Glue? I wanna reglue one of my Old Rugs but I wanna strip the old glue first before using the new glue
@Rendallscleaningmi2 жыл бұрын
We usually do a full cleaning to the rug before we re-glue, which helps get rid of some of the old glue. However, most of the time we don't strip the old glue off because it has already deterioted and doesn't need to be stripped. Depending on the condition of the rug, you can try to vacuum off as much glue as you can since it's usually a powdery latex. You can also try to use a razor to scrape off any excess glue. Otherwise we typically just apply the glue right on top of the old glue since there's not much left at that point.

I have a rug that the GLUE for the backing has deteriorated and the backing can easily be peeled off. The backing material itself seems fine albeit encrusted with crumbling old glue. The rug itself is in fine condition. I was thinking of peeling the backing completely off and cleaning as much of the crumbling glue as possible. How do I sufficiently remove the old glue?
@Rendallscleaningmi3 жыл бұрын
Since it's usually just dried and crumbly, we try to vacuum off as much as we can. If there are some tricky areas, you could try scraping it off with a knife.

Can you recommend someone in the Middle TN area ? For re-backing ? I have a beautiful 8x11 rug with the stinky latex; yes it's a Jaunty from India :/

We don't know of anyone personally, but if you go to rugcaredirectory.com, you can type in your zip code and hopefully find a credible rug cleaner/repair company on there. Hope that helps!

@@Rendallscleaningmi So I ordered the 1132 & it came today! I turned the rug over & removed the scrim (because I could) I then applied a thin coat with a trowel & it appears to be drying clear; is that normal? I will apply another thin coat tomorrow. So far So Good!

@@KittyKat-xn7fy awesome!! Yes that sounds normal :) On Bond's website, they have some pictures of before and after of the glue drying if you wanted to look for reference.

The yellow particles are degraded glue, and particles don't off-gas. He's using the term incorrectly.
