Rene Higuita ● Saves Compilation ► EL LOCO

José René Higuita Gómez (Medellín, 27 de agosto de 1966) es un ex futbolista colombiano que se desempeñaba como arquero.
Su particular estilo de juego, de portero-jugador, en la línea de José Eusebio Soriano, Hugo Gatti y su peculiar personalidad, lo convirtieron en un ídolo en su país durante las décadas de los ochenta y noventa. Fue elegido por la IFFHS como el octavo mejor portero sudamericano del siglo XX en el 2004.
Higuita fue fundamental para un cambio clave en las reglas del fútbol, pues luego de su actuación en el Mundial de Italia de 90, con arriesgadas y espectaculares jugadas por fuera del área muy rara vez vistas en partidos de fútbol por parte del portero y nunca se habían visto en un evento de ese tipo, un congreso técnico en Coverciano en 1990, empezó a hablar del arquero-líbero y llegó a la conclusión que era necesario impulsar el uso de los pies en los arqueros. Esto llevó a que la FIFA estableciera una nueva norma de que si un futbolista devuelve a su compañero portero el balón con los pies, éste no puede recibirlo o tocarlo con las manos de lo contrario la pena es tiro libre indirecto. 1
Higuita es reconocido como uno de los mejores porteros de la historia del fútbol sudamericano y una figura clave en el ascenso de Colombia dentro del panorama futbolístico internacional, siendo parte de una gran generación al lado de Carlos Valderrama, Freddy Rincón, Adolfo "el Tren" Valencia, Faustino Asprilla, Leonel Álvarez y otros.
Además, ocupa el cuarto puesto en el ranking de los arqueros más goleadores en la historia del fútbol (ocupó el primer lugar por varios años) con 41 tantos en juegos oficiales,2 por detrás de Rogério Ceni, José Luis Chilavert y Dimitar Ivankov.
