Since there are many variables with the Porsche line, and considering the history of potential previous modifications done to the car, it is nearly impossible to provide a link to a specific product. Take for instance the brake kit featured in the video. We have found that multiple 914's have received 911 upgrades to the front-end suspension. Depending upon the year of the upgrade, there are multiple options of Renegade brake kits available. Since this can be confusing, and talking to a real human is considerably more personable, we choose to stay 'old-school' and talk on the phone. 702-739-8011 is our number. Care to chat?

Nice! I have 993 brakes front and rear, work great! Very similar looks like!

I would agree, but the value of the 993 brakes now is out of this world in comparison to the bastard 996 brakes. Thank you IMS bearing failures!

Scott, I couldn't find and information about this on your website... Also is it possible to have the caliper mount in the rear modified to also have a mount for wilwood mechanical parking brake calipers, like a duel mount of sorts??
@RenegadeHybrids2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking. Not on the site yet. We are selling this so fast, we can't keep up. We'll put it on the site shortly. Price is $1295 for the kit. The extra weight of a remote parking brake caliper on the end of the trailing arm will slow the already rather heavy suspension down even more. We would suggest a line-lock. Thanks.

I love the 996 brake for the 944. Please tell me your working on a kit for the rear too.
@RenegadeHybrids2 жыл бұрын
In the 944, the rear calipers are not as dependent-upon as the fronts. Under heavy braking, the 944 will transfer approximately 80% of the overall weight of the vehicle to the front. That 20% leftover should be handled nicely by the rear stock calipers in street applications. Yes, if you are building a race car, I would certainly consider a rear upgrade especially with a Pro-Driver that might do some left-foot braking to settle the chassis possibly mid corner. Then, if there is that much proficiency with the driver, a bias control valve would likely be implemented as well. Just to be clear, rear brakes still have a hefty responsibility to the stability of the car under heavy braking. If a customer's demands on the braking system are high due to spirited driving or track events, or if he/she wants to add an additional margin of safety and increase braking front and rear, I would certainly encourage it. Incorporating the turbo brakes in the rear of the 944 might be a great solution. One more note. With later model vehicles that incorporate various forms of traction control, rear brakes have increased in size significantly as the traction control intervenes with the throttle AND operates brakes instantaneously...especially rear brakes. For the amateur driver operating a late-model vehicle to the point of abuse, the rear brakes can and will be used/abused as much, and even more, than the fronts. The stability control systems will do all they can to attempt to save it's precious cargo...even to the point of 'smoking' the rear brakes. I have seen this more times than I care to recall. However, without traction control, there is no way the demands on the rear brakes will be as significant as the fronts (unless someone left the parking brake on). Over sizing the rear brakes could lead to premature lock-up at threshold braking...again because all the weight is on the front. In the case of the 914 (very similar to that of the 996), there is considerably more weight over the rear due to the location of the engine and transaxle. That translates into a lower percentage of weight transfer to the front under heavy braking. Looking at the bias (front to back weight comparison), the 914 V8 had very similar weight bias as the 996...hence the choice of the entire 996 brake package on the 914 including calipers AND rotors. This would not be the case with the 944. Hope this helps!

@@RenegadeHybrids that was a very long way of saying there is no market for rear 998/986 calliper kit for a 944 🤣. With overwhelming confidence i can agree the brake balance on a 944 is that far forward as iv only ever locked up the front. Setting a bias valve set up is the sensible thing to do. more power and ever more spirited driving is always the plan but ya got to do it with style 😉

How is the brake bias does it need a break proportioning valve from front to rear. Looks very nice
@RenegadeHybrids2 жыл бұрын
Not at all. Part of the beauty of the brake upgrade was the particularly accurate bias we ended up with in the end. Threshold braking was extremely accurate with front lock happening before rear (with matching pad compounds), and it took some effort. So ultimately, rears were very much in play at threshold braking, but the tires kept turning to maintain control until full panic stop was initiated.
@RenegadeHybrids2 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind, since we are using a matched set front and rear from an existing car with (ironically) similar weight bias front and rear, brake bias fell into place naturally!

Wouldn't a remote small master cylinder on the parking brake work?
@RenegadeHybrids2 жыл бұрын
We tried that once and used the stock parking brake cable to a remote caliper to actuate a sufficient parking brake for a state inspection. It worked. I honestly wouldn't do it again as a production item, but I don't think it would be that hard to fabricate something and make it work.

So, it's OK to have inferior brakes with known issues on your 914 and take a chance with your family (and mine) on the highways just to be sure you can park on a light incline next to the front door of your local pub? What was clearly addressed here is the inferiority of the stock 914 brakes, especially while the vehicle is in motion and carrying massive kinetic energy...not when it's parked and sitting still on a rare hill or gradient likely confined to a parking lot and certainly not under power. A line-lock could be implemented. Clever individuals within your circles could find a remote caliper solution. Heck, we have seen 914 parking brake cables snap or portions of the system rust and fail that's why most smart 914 owners put the car in gear when it's parked. If you are gravely concerned and you 'tune out' because you are worried about a parking brake, use a chock. I would rather you have ultimate and reliable control when exiting a freeway down a hill approaching a busy intersection, than choose to take a chance on a poor rotor-bearing design that cooks the grease out of the bearing causing catastrophic hub/spindle failure, a tiny single piston brake caliper that boils the fluid instantly, a non-vented rotor that does not dissipate heat, and a 50+ year old brake system on a car that originally came with 70 series bias ply tires during an era when we had 50% less cars on roadways than we do now. You don't put your manual transmission cars in gear when you park? Do you leave your automatic transmission cars in neutral when you park? Just curious...
