I played the MW2 back in the day on a DX2 66Mhz machine that I had to upgrade from 4 to 8Mb RAM. (because of the game, Dark Forces). This was the first game I purchased for the PC. I still have the original DOS CD Rom laying around somewhere. And have over time, pulled it out to replay on portable Discman of the era. Forward over a decade, and I was chatting with the Community Manager of Hellgate London. We both agreed that MW2 was then best ever composed music for a video game. A sentiment that I would still champion today. All Systems Nominal.

Mechwarrior 2 had an amazing vibe that hasn't been matched by any mech game since This music combined with the flat shaded graphics, often thick world fog and the eerie sound design really made you feel like you were utterly alone on a hostile alien world Your mech was your only friend and also the only thing keeping you alive, the planet and everyone on it wanted you dead I know a lot of it was unintentional and due to hardware limitations (thick fog to reduce render distance, the lack of allies and smaller numbers of enemies to spare the CPUs of the primitive computers it was designed to run on) but it still made for a phenomenal game
@ty808SD7 ай бұрын
So true. The simple and barren landscapes added to the eeriness of the worlds you fought on. Though I never read any of the books, I did enjoy the text before the missions that added political context for the fight I was about to engage in. The soundtrack though, is what has stuck with me for 20ish years. One of my favorites of all time.

My introduction to Battletech came from the old dos game called Battletech: Crescent Hawks Revenge. I loved that game and wish I could still play it. It came in a box that had a mech identification guide which I was always reading through. And it also came with a poster of all the mechs in the game, which I hung on my wall. It got me into the table top. My first miniature was the Stalker. Over time I had like a hundred different miniatures of both clan and inner sphere units, including vehicles, infantry, battle armor, and aerospace. Oh, and I of course got Mechwarrior 2, 3 and 4 and Mechcommander and Mechcommander 2.

This remix doesn't lose any of that feeling of liminal space the game and soundtrack had, which is surprising given just how much the soundscape has been filled out. I don't know if it's just me, but that disorienting, spaced-out buzz of alienation mixed with odd familiarity seemed essential in the portrayal of the clash between the Clans and Inner Sphere, so it's great that it wasn't lost in the mix.
