My first exposure to junji ito was Japanese Tales of the Macabre on Netflix it started an interest in existential Lovecraftian horror in me and now I’m reading Lovecrafts work.

What order are you reading? What do you recommend to get into lovecraft?
@jat99264 ай бұрын
@@zade8586 i recommend the completed works from Barnes and Noble because their in order published. The one im reading is 67 tales of Horror and the stories are out of order. But theres a website decicated to Lovecraft that has all his published works on it if you dont want a physical copy.

And so other people can see i would recommend Barnes and Nobles Completed Works version because it has all his published stories in order of publish date. The one im reading is 67 tales of Horror which is out of order but its still good. But there is a website with all of Lovecrafts work on it you can where you can read it for free.

That's really unfortunate, the Netflix adaptations were bad

Junji Ito is basically the David Cronenberg of manga, but with more of a supernatural twist to it.

@@jat9926Definitely more Lovecraftian. His work is more on the level of cosmic horror than it is body horror. The body horror is more of a byproduct of the events that occur in his work.
@jat99264 ай бұрын
@@fuchainsa even Lovecraft has elements of Body horror in his work. Innsmouth could be considered Body Horror with that Innsmouth Look the Innsmouth people get when they go through fish puberty. Whisperer in the Darkness literally has brains being removed and put in jars for insterstellar travel and Shadow Out of Time literally has the MC being body snatched by an ancient race.

I first heard of Uzumaki through Linkara's "Long-box of the Dammed" series. Eventually, I read the manga for myself, and really enjoyed it; and I've since read more of Junji Ito's works, as a result. So I've been really looking forward to this anime adaption; and I'm glad it's finally coming out.

Junji Ito is the modern day Lovecraft. He makes horror that makes you think and that's terrifying. The kinda horror that's left up for your mind to wonder. The way he draws and tells a story is just the ultimate horror fuel. The fact that he was training to be a Dentist before becoming a Mangaka is just perfect what's scarier than a dentist 😭😭

4:58 you’re not wrong there about him getting into our viseral fears. He even put out the one manga that was about the world being over ran by fish and sharks with enhanced mechanical quadruped legs. Gyo was the manga and it was animated too. Its also Probably nicks worst fear with sharks attacking while roaming on land

@luciferpetrenkoff50404 ай бұрын
It was my first time hearing of this the only Uzumaki I’ve heard of is Naruto Uzumaki

Because uzumaki means spiral or whirlpool and Naruto is based on fishcakes which has spiral shapes
