I think Cabin in the Woods is flawless. But part of me thinks it could have been interesting if they changed the group working for the ancient ones around a bit and killed them off differently making the end of the world get averted without explanation at the end and you're left to theorize if what they were doing was pointless or if you paid attention a set of major employees from the group being killed off one by one matched the ritual requirements.

Perhaps with a showing that we had an old as hell virgin that was too busy with work there, never got a girlfriend or wife and never had an interest in it. A security liason could easily be the 'athlete/jock', the slut/whore could be just about any secretary or 'will do this for benefits' for their boss, etc. etc. Like literally showing that a lot of the deaths that's happened there was useful as well. Or ya know, some seriously bad translation of things and they have literally been feeding the ancient ones rather than just NOT do as stated by reading the 'small print' if you will.

That would have been a better ending. I feel that it would have been better if it ended on a darker note, where the last two survivors know about what is going on but can't stop it or even tell anyone else without looking like a crazy person. And it would leave us to wonder if the world is ultimately doomed in the future as the group has been destroyed or will it restart as other countries have different divisions of this organization? On a side note, I hope there is no sequel to this. It most likely won't have one but you know how Hollywood is.

4 years late so likely you won’t even see this but I think that ending is more ideal for a straight up horror movie. But being a comedy horror that is also a satire of the genre I think the ending is has is perfect. I just think the conceit of all these cliches we associate with horror films are necessary or else the world will end is funny😂 but your take on ending is def interesting just maybe not right for this particular movie

My brother showed me this movie when I was younger and explained to me what it exactly was cause I've never been one for horror since I get anxious and overthink. Even as an adult 😂. But I liked this movie and honestly my favorite monster is the robot with all the saws. I remember we described it as wall-e on steroids 😂😂

This movie is one of the best that came on SYFY and then Silent Hill Revelation which always played afterwards is the right way to get ready for intense and disturbing content even though it's not the best of the two movies but the Manniquen Spider Monster is still freaky looking.

My only issue with the movie is the ending. I think it should have ended with the world accidentally being saved because of the massacre in the underground labs, as so many people were killed. Stop and think about it. It's said that the Whore must die first and the Virgin be saved for last, except that Dana is not a virgin so this whole plan was never going to work because of it. But what if someone else was and they survived or died? Maybe Marty does die or someone else who is much of a Fool dies in his place. Either way, the survivor or survivors must live with the knowledge of the truth and be unable to tell anyone. That is a lot darker.

Drew Goddard is part right and part wrong. Using CGI and effects to make life easier has nothing to do with the audience. The audience are the judge, jury, and executioner of what they see. Unless the script is good and digital effects meld well with practical, pure digital or anything else is obvious to the trained eye. Jason Voorhess is always fun to watch because he works with less and still manage to give the audience more. The audience aren't on a budget or deadlines; filmmakers and script writers who don't understand this are lost. Cabin in the Woods is a great film but it wasn't the effects that made this movie what it was.
