If I had to guess, Japan's 'weird' aspect comes from an influx of American fiction, media, and from a very restrictive society. The way they're expected to act in public and around people can be stifling, and it most likely leads to these more intense shows/games/commercials/etc, because they need an outlet.

Don’t know her name, but I hope these comments doesn’t discourage the woman from participating in these videos. She seemed to enjoy the video, and from what I understand, her fiancé was in the hospital, and that had something to do with her looking at the phone all the time. Maybe watching a funny video with her friends helped her deal with the stressful circumstances she was in, rather than just sit around waiting for updates.
