You can't dye wolf armour in Minecraft all you need to do is put water in a cauldron and then put dye inside it Enter your armour

You technically can dye wolf armor the same way as leather armor. Just not the way you tried. It’s not the whole armor, it’s just a little bit. The rest stays the normal color.
