I would add one more. The Porsche Snob. This is usually the rich guy who owns one of the newest, most expensive cars and looks down on anyone who doesn't own a car that costs over $150k. They also typically know very little about the brand or its history. I've owned 5 different Porsches and the most I've ever paid for one is $38k. If it has a Porsche badge on it, it's a Porsche.

Will, indeed many of us who appreciate the excellence built into our cars, also appreciate quality watches and buy according to our budgets. Both bring us the joy of beautiful things we can touch and use. It’s about a sense of balance, being grateful we own and enjoy a car(s) that’s so fun to drive and look at. After all, we’re talking about our playgrounds in life. Thanks again. 👍🏼🙏🏼.

I completely agree with this comment. It’s about the driver and the drivers personal experience. Yes, I just sold my 1992 964 to buy a 2016 981 GTS and couldn’t be happier! I don’t care about the appreciation, depreciation or what the community covets. It’s about what each owner wants and how they want to spend their windshield time. Great video, Will.

I am 75 years old with advanced arthritis. As much as I love the 911, it simply became too difficult for me to get in and out of it. So, I opted to stay with the Porsche brand and now drive a Cayenne S. Yeah, I know just thinking about driving a SUV is definitely frowned upon. I have been told by other Porsche owners that the Cayenne is not a real Porsche and they wouldn’t be caught dead in one. I get it. But, sooner or later, old age will come and you are forced to compromise.

I’ve owned a lot of Pcars in my life time. 944s, 968s, 928s, 3.2 Carreras, 356, 997, 987 Boxster. I just picked up a 2017 cayenne GTS a couple of weeks ago. I never thought about the SUVs much but needed a new family car. I absolutely love it. It is an amazing vehicle and very much a Porsche experience. I bought my wife a boxster tip 987, I find the tip with convertible a very wonderful car in heavy traffic or city driving at my age of 46. I still prefer a manual as I live out in a rural area, but at some point I won’t be able to drive them anymore like you said. I’ll still be rolling in a Cayenne for sure. Just enjoy it!

I didn’t mention that I am 6’4”. I was fairly comfortable once I got settled in the seat of the 911 but getting back out of it after an hour or so became a real struggle. I still get stiff and have pain after an hour or so in the Cayenne but at least I can get out of it without too much trouble. I like the Cayenne but my wife’s Macan S is much more engaging to drive. She is only 5’2” and it fits her well. The only issue is she isn’t afraid to push it hard and she scares the hell out of me sometimes when I am the passenger. She is an excellent driver and has driven high performance cars all her life. She drove Corvette’s for many years.

I’m a newer Porsche enthusiast, have been the last 3 years. The brand impressed me so much not by their cars but how they treat people whether they are owners or not. A dramatic change from Ferrari, which has honestly gotten pretty annoying with their consistent attitudes. The Porsche Experience in ATL is a great gateway drug as well, and it enabled me to meet all of these types mentioned in the video in 3 days. It doesn’t matter which variant or model you have, just enjoy it.

Sage advice, Will. I’ve been on this planet for 74 years, so chances are pretty high I’ve been exposed to just about every degree of the good, bad and ugly when it comes to some of the folks you identified. While I truly believe the obnoxious snobs are far and away in the minority, they certainly exist. I have low tolerance for the ones that clearly make judgements about those around them based on how they might dress or the make or model vehicle they drive. First of all, I feel very fortunate to be able to own a Porsche. There are certainly many folks that would be very good stewards of the brand, but due to circumstances, may never be able to own one of our favorite vehicles. It never ceases to amaze me when I pull into a business, the degree of assistance I get is sometimes clearly related to what I may be driving that day. I remember pulling into a Toyota dealership in my 1995 pickup to look at a car for my wife. I was clearly sized up by the salesmen……and none of them wanted to give up their “up” on me. I apparently didn’t appear to be a likely candidate to be able to afford what they were selling. I couldn’t even get someone to give me a brochure ! I left. Just to confirm what I suspected, a few days later I stopped by the same dealer….only this time I was driving my 2023 911 Carrera. It was absolutely amazing….almost obscene. I was “mobbed” from every direction by sales reps before….BEFORE I could even get out of my car !!! I explained I was there to get some information on a car for my wife….oh….and I’d come by a couple of days ago……and no one would give me the time of day…..I was the guy in the old red truck. I just stopped by to let you know you may have screwed up…..since no one wanted to help me a few days ago, I bought her a new BMW. Thanks……and good day ! Don’t be that kind of person….someday it may even cost you your job !

I came to "my" Porsche dealership in Katowice, Poland back in 2018 in... parking 11 year old Toyota Camry hybrid in front of their windows. With dents here and there. I got fantastic customer service. Including appointment for 1 hour test drive with sales Manager the following week. So for that appointment I came in a taxi cab... got the 1 hour drive with the sales Manager. After which he ordered a taxi for me and got me a cup of coffee when waiting for it. I ordered new Cayman T from them after a few months. Racing Yellow (per their recommendation). I don't know how they train them but trust me, to get this level of customer service in Easter Europe when you actually look "kind of poor" at a Porsche dealership out of all places -- absolutely amazing. They treat everyone with respect. I haven't seen this level of customer service care when shopping for 911 in LA area, or Newport Beach. Nothing special there. Just OK. I don't think they would treat me seriously if I showed up in an old Camry. Guys in Porsche Katowice, Poland, I mean that's customer service worthy of the badge. To completed the picture I didn't dress up or anything too... they just care. I love it.

I've always loved the 914 and the story behind it being a joint project between VW and Porsche but turning out so great that Porsche didn't want to share the platform with VW, whether it's true or not, it was still an amazing little car that you could drive hard. I owned several Karmann Ghias, and have driven a few 914's but never bought one because I was always holding out for a 912 instead. But every 912 I almost bought slipped through my fingers. Now, 912's are stupid expensive rust buckets, and the last one I drove felt like a death trap. Anyway 914's are too rare to drive every day now so I bought an old boxster. I hope you get to keep your little gem forever!

I went to my first PCA dinner as a 28 yo and was definitely intimidated by the existing members. But I was very positively surprised that nobody looked down on me for having a Boxster S. Instead the mostly 911 crew had only nice things to say about it. Then I went to an autocross and again expected snobbery. Again I was shocked. What I found is that Pcar guys are very realistic and knowledgeable about the different platforms and it’s far different than the world at large. You will meet people who may have gone to their first event thinking they have the most expensive therefore best porsche but then they see “oh there are 8 different Boxsters ahead of the fastest Turbo.” These cars are legit.

I recently had a young man (maybe 18yr) notice my 79' 911 when I got home and opened the garage door, he saw me in the yard with my dog and came over to ask me about the car and then asked if he could see it, long story short, I took him for a drive and he was extremely appreciative, no doubt he'll remember that for a long time, I know I did when I was his age. So I was ecstatic when I became the proud owner of the local Porsche shop owners 914 shop runabout. I really tried hard to be a volunteer so I could participate in Treffen when it was to be held in my PCA region, but the snob factor set in and prevented me from even volunteering without participation. All I wanted to do was go drive with all the other Porsches. PCA really seems to be a snobbish pay to play pomp & circumstance bunch of bigots. I only keep my members current for the magazine. If you’re interested in having a more positive group, perhaps voting more inclusive presidents to the regions or pulling in the lesser able dedicated Porsche enthusiasts into the fold would be a good start. I am a new kid on the block (14 months owner of 9 yr old 981 Boxster S). I encountered several of the types you mentioned in social media and in real life. A FB group for Porsche in Switzerland actually blocked me a few hours since I joined because I asked them where I can get a Porsche T-Shirt. Another event was when I dropped by a Porsche shop which specialises in aircooled 911s, they told me to go away because they don't do "modern" Boxsters. Another swiss FB group also blcoked me because I posted my questoins/commetns in ENGLISH. So yes, these stereotypes are REAL. And...I do try to be a GOOD owner and not a proud showoff. But I always get "mid life crisis" comments which are so sour grapes.

Well done and I think you are on point with all of them. I would add one more. Porsche owners, more than any other enthusiast group I have encountered are quite myopic with regards to other brands. I collect several brands including Porsche (I have 4). They are all tools that serve a purpose and provide a tremendous amount of enjoyment to me. Unfortunately, many Porsche guys will never know that there is enjoyment in other brands AND they are also worthy of ownership.

Great video! 997.1 C2 base manual owner. I've only been in the hobby for a little over 2 years. I drive and hang with members from 2 different PCA regions because of where I'm located. I'd say at least 90% of the enthusiasts I've encountered have bent over backwards to be friendly and welcoming. Porsche people are good people. I have encountered a few of the 'over enthusiastic driver' types. Even they were very cool on a one on one level. Although I felt like needed a shot of bourbon after a few of those drives.

I’ve loved Porsche since the age of 12. I Started building type 1 VW’s in my mid teens trying for what I thought a Porsche would be. I didn’t have a lot of money. 2 weeks ago my life long dream became a reality… I took delivery of my very own 2024 Cayman GTS 4.0. The entire experience exceeded my expectations by 1000x. I will always own a Porsche from now on :). That said, I love all Porsche cars. I don’t care if it’s a 928, 944, 924, 914, Cayman, or 911. They are epic! On the drive home from the dealership I took the car for a little rip on a back road I used to drive in my late teens. I had pulled over to grab a drink of water and just stare at the car. A young kid with his dad was walking by when they made a comment about how cool the car was. Looking at the kid and telling him, one day, you’ll have one to… it was hard for me to hold my tears back. Epic cars that make the ones who understand want to achieve more to enjoy these cars! Thanks for the video! I’m going to subscribe to your channel 👍.

There are 911S s and 911S s. Pre-74 and 74-77. I had a ‘75 and would never buy one again. Don’t know of the commentator but he said you can drive Porsches hard. You can, but then again the 74-77 era were like Harley’s of the era under AMF, they loved to warp and leak oil. On a hot summer Oklahoma day I drove mine easy, then it caught fire. Won’t buy into that dumpster fire again, so now I really enjoy my derided 914.

Many years ago before I was a Porsche owner, I was a paramedic that was working at a track day for the Porsche club. Insurance reasons required us to be there. The owners were totally into their cars and would not give me nor my Paramedic partner the time of day. Was not a very good first impression. We did several track days over the years and it was always the same. Compared to the Ferrari club that came at another time, those owners treated us like gold, offered us lunch and even took us for a trip around the track in their Ferraris, I guess it’s the difference between old money and new money? I learned from that day long ago that I was not going to be a Porsche snob when i bought my Porsche.

I need an everyday "sports" car to fit 4 adults comfortably, go on long journeys, practical, little more environmetally friendly (electric range) and the ability to provide that fizzing senstation and emotion that you can only get with a traditional ICE. Gues what... Porsche makes such a car... I found it in a Porsche Panamera e-hybrid. Even though I've always dreamt of a 911 since I was a kid... they made a car just for me.

As a Cayman owner, I've had a few 911 owners give me some attitude. I try to push past it and find out more about their 911. One time at a PCA HPDE event, there was this 991 4S who after a couple laps of me behind him eventually gave me a point by. Ran into him in the classroom after the session, and he could not believe that a Cayman S was able to pass and pull away from his 911. He was dumbfounded, and I found it a little insulting. He was newer in that run group, and I was a little more experienced. He was actually a pretty nice guy. I enjoyed checking out his car, which was amazing and beautiful, and he was better about giving me point bys after.

***I apologize for the dissertation, something I’ve been called out for numerous times within the communities. I just wanted to share my thoughts. You’re not being judge mental whatsoever. This is VERY relevant and thank you for making this video. This is actually a topic that’s really been egging on my mind. Being a 24 year old, growing up in this day and age-is shocking and overwhelming how different the world is today vs 10-15 even 5 years ago. Car enthusiast communities are plague with who’s got the most money or “best” car. I’m not gonna give a newer person a hard time while they’re figuring out the strings, unless they’re being “that guy” with a 991.2 Touring or 992 GT3 and doesn’t know much else (bashes someone’s 996 Turbo because it’s “ugly”. or says someone’s base 991.1 is peasant spec and could really just care less about being a good contributor or conversing with others genuinely-but still wants to be in the communities??? I’ve been into these cars since I was 11 or 12. Just traded my first Porsche, a 19’ 718 6spd that had 8,200 mls in on an 09’ 997.2 PDK C2S with 54k mls. There are certainly some f-boys, both young and old in the scene now. The lack of empathy and support for other/newer and even knowledgeable more senior enthusiasts, blows my mind. So many people have come onto the scene with their first Porsche being any later post 997.2 gen variation of a GT3 or a Turbo S. Some of these people have zero respect or desire to just share like mindedness. Oh and the “flippers”…It’s so annoying seeing both individuals and “dealers” taking advantage of this post-covid and crypto infused world. Some individuals haven’t even owned one of these cars longer than 2-3 months. Because they got four, five, six 992s in their driveway and are continuously “connecting” people with a car. Not uncommon for individuals who clearly have some decent means, to post a new 992 “for sale” with only 80 miles or 150 miles. Whatever, they ask the community what they think it’s worth? Or is anyone interested in this car? Common sense, why would you buy it then? I see many dealer relationships not having this scenario with individuals buying special cars and instead, they get cars they keep and MAYBE drive for a little while at least. People think you can/should be able to buy these cars and flip them like they’re getting lucky with crypto. I’m sick of hearing the term “investment”. Don’t buy these cars with the mindset you’re going to make some money even $15k-$20k more than you paid for a new 992 GTS. That being said, like any reasonable or mindful enthusiast I’m not trying to get screwed and I want the car that’s going to treat me the best given whatever circumstances are surrounding it based on condition and desirability. (I’m not buying cars as investments, but I’d like to get into a car where I don’t have to worry about it taking a dive and potentially finding myself contemplating taking a huge >20% loss in no more than a couple years.) Also…some of these “dealers” scouting the BaT, PCM, nationwide inventory and scooping up hot cars for their inventory. Saw it happen near me, Porsche dealer got an 11’ or 12’ C2S cab 1-owner 1,900 miles. Asking under $72k. Ok that’s reasonable you’re paying for the experience of a new pristine 997.2 Well known dealer in the Northeast scooped it and listed, might still have it, $99k… I would never fall for this and hate it for that next guy/gal unknowingly getting into a situation that they’re gonna be taken on financially. Not their fault, dishonest people with selfish intentions.

The worst of the worst I’ve seen in the world of the vintage cars. In the scenario I have seen, a guy becomes aware of a seller and knows of a buyer, doesn’t introduce them and then gets in the middle without putting money out or registering the car…just marks it up ridiculously and rips off the buyer after grinding down the seller…dude doesn’t have a dealer’s license nor does he pay taxes or improve the car in any way. Total parasite. I know of one guy specifically who runs rallies and basically preys on the people who go there by doing this very thing over and over and over. I personally love referring buyers to sellers and vice versa…never take a finder’s fee…just enjoy seeing guys getting excited about doing deals enjoying the cars.

I am on my 4th Porsche. I had two 911’s, a 987.1 Boxster S and a Cayenne S. I have loved them all. But my 2006 Boxster S is by far the best. It handles like a dream and corners like it is on rails. When I bought the Boxster in 2006 I had to make a choice between the 911 and the Boxster. I have always been a ragtop guy and really wanted a convertible. The 911 convertible model was not as pleasing as the Boxster. The rear end looked as if it had a growth on its back whereas the Boxster was sculpted. That was my deciding factor. To be honest I have never regretted my decision.

I’ve been a Porsche owner for 24 years - same car, a beautifully restored classic Targa. I gave up my PCA membership just this year. I like the car and will pass it on to my daughter one day, but the club and community literally became too much of an actual religion. In my area, your political affiliation became your ticket to Porsche events. Fine by me - it was hunting season anyway. But still… I went to Le Mans - my 3rd appearance. I visited every pit, every crew, every team (yeah, I bought the €2400 ticket) except for Porsche. The crown jewel of Le Mans had no time for me. Even with my $60 Porsche Motorsports polo shirt. Even with my PCA card. Ferrari - of all brands - welcomed me, and served me an espresso! I helped the Glickenhaus team fit a front clip! Porsche wouldn’t let me past the velvet rope.
