Critical Mass, in my opinion the most badass Sea fury racer. These videos are pure gold, thanks for sharing!

Thank you!! Yes Critical Mass was pretty bad ass, definitely one of my favorite unlimited racers. Plus while I was a crew member on the September Pops air racing team, we ended up acquiring the outer wing panels from CM to put on September Fury when we shortened the wings. More to come....

So odd to see Voodoo running bronze. Not to mention having a standard bubble canopy! Just goes to show how far she’s come in a short time.

Great video! But how is it that the Seafuries are so loud compared to the one (Critical Mass) which is pretty quiet?Is it the motor or the propellers?

I’m not 100% sure about the sound, but I do know that CM was more tuned, ran the slow nose case so the prop spins slower, and it may have had shorter blades.

Critical Mass had a rare slow nose case (September Fury, and Rare Bear had them as well). There were later versions of the 3350 that had a different geared nose case that geared the prop down while still running the engine at high horsepower, this kept the blades from going supersonic.

Was Critical Mass running methanol here? If so how did they get enough fuel without taking off last / starting engine late?
@Voodoo16503 жыл бұрын
No, they never ran methanol with Critical Mass, the only time methanol was used was when owned by the previous race team, and was called Blind Man’s Bluff.

@@Voodoo1650 Ohh gotcha. I thought it was CM that ran it. Are you planning on going to Reno 22’?

That is Critical Mass, a highly modified Hawker Sea Fury. It started life as a T.Mk 20 two seat trainer which was one of the German target towing planes post war. It is currently restored back to a stock configuration using an American R-2800 engine. www.key.aero/article/sea-fury-flies-again
