The renovation and expansion of this house in Jardim Botânico (RJ) took two years and brought a new life to a family with three children: a 14-year-old boy and two girls aged 12 and 6. The project, designed by Carolina Escada and Patricia Landau, from the Escala Arquitetura firm (@escalarquiteturarj), transformed the property with 268m² of land and 845m² of built area, spread over five floors.
The narrow, sloping lot was one of the main challenges. The original house had a semi-underground floor with a garage and service area, a ground floor with a kitchen and living rooms, and two floors with bedrooms and a terrace with a pool and sauna. After the renovation, the semi-underground floor was expanded to include a gourmet space integrated with a new infinity pool. Below it, a basement was excavated to house a guest bedroom, playroom, service area and balcony with a spa and sauna.
On the ground floor, the kitchen was expanded and the living room was integrated. The first floor has two large suites: one for the son and another shared by the sisters, with walk-in closets and individual bathrooms, planned for future divisions. The second floor has a new master suite with a walk-in closet, large bathroom and office with a balcony, replacing the original terrace.
The design concept combines lightness, coziness and elegance. Neutral tones and natural textures were used to highlight works of art and decorative objects. Wood warms the spaces, while textures on the walls and furniture bring comfort. The decor mixes classic and modern pieces, including items from the family collection and furniture designed by Brazilian designers.
The social areas prioritized a timeless style, while the bedrooms reflect the personality of the children, who actively participated in the choices of fabrics, wallpaper and decorative objects. The house now offers ample spaces for socializing and privacy in the intimate areas, meeting the residents' request for a comfortable home to receive friends and family.

About Casa de Valentina 😉
Hi, my name is Lucila Zahran Turqueto and I'm responsible for Casa de Valentina! The project began as a blog in 2008, the result of my passion for decorating spaces when I was setting up my first home.
Over time and with a lot of dedication, Casa de Valentina grew, gained momentum and matured. I received invitations to write articles for the main magazines in the segment, I was on the cover of a magazine and we won the title of the most influential design and décor blog in Latin America.
Here on KZbin, you will find a select selection of architectural projects, with good decoration and interior solutions. A space for us to share inspiration and good taste!
