Ok, you've probably heard this before, but personal opinion, and I mean this in the most complimentary way.. Brad is so literal, that each word must be dissected within its own meaning, and Lex speaks in almost all metaphors, and mixed metaphors, then between the two of your personalities you arrive at the reality..
@richashby64223 жыл бұрын
I just came up with a theory on that and I could be way way off base. I have this idea that writers of fiction use a lot of figurative language like metaphors, imagery and symbolism among others to convey their messages. I had a friend who didn't like reading fiction he only really read non-fiction and he tended to take a lot of things in a more literal sense. For instance I once convinced him to read an award winning book that myself and other friends had loved reading years before. He hated it, and when we talked about it, it was almost like he read a completely different book than me. He was completely focused on the format of the writing style missing the entire point that the writers choice of that format was in itself a commentary of the characters. My friend also didn't come coming close to getting the message the novel was trying to get across with all the other figurative choices because he was so preoccupied with the sentence structure as if he was in English class trying to diagram them. So my idea is that people who read a lot of fiction when they're younger are more apt to think about song lyrics in a figurative way rather than literal on first examination. I don't have much history at all of listening to Rap outside of some of the stuff in the 80s so I can't comment on that but I've heard a lot of country music from the 70s to 90s and there is a lot less figurative lyric writing in my opinion used in that genre than that of Rock and especially Metal music. So I'd be curious what Brad's reading history is like and if there is any correlation between that and what seems like a tendency to look for a literal meaning first when listening to song lyrics. As for Lex I've never heard anyone go as abstract as she does, together they're pretty entertaining.

This song was the BIRTH of the hard rock power ballad!!! It was created by accident, because the band was a hard rock band with no chart success. When the lead singer wrote this for his wife, the band actually hated it. They didn't want to record a soft piano ballad. That's when the lead guitarist decided they could do it, but he had to add some electric guitar power chords. It started a whole phenomenon in the 80's. This was their first top 40 hit, and it went all the way to #1 in 1981.

Year and years ago I was an Art Major. One of the things our teacher made us do was write down why it was we were creating, why we were creating it, what styles or techniques we were going to use, etc., etc., etc., BEFORE we created it. This is how academia & Corporate media "expects" artists to create. However, once released from the confines of an Art Class, I, and my fellow artist friends, went on to create many, many separate pieces that had no previous thought in them at all except... "well that might look good there".... and the best of us would create all that verbiage AFTER we were done, trying to give the "looker" the impression we were working from total inspiration. If you look at artist's like Jimmy Page... each concert rendition lead guitar solo is different and that's cause there's no "set way" he even wants to have for a particular song... rather he wants to be enjoying being "in the flow of the moment" while he's making it all up as he goes along. To an Artist, that's true art. Conversely, many artist's are only in it for the money.... many because the record companies have forced them to sign long contracts that specified how many songs had to be created in whatever specific length of time. IN short the corporations want their formula followed by musicians and some musicians do it that way... while others play from inspiration, from the heart, from common sense, from spur of the moment and just make up stuff as they go. Who's to say who the true artists truly are.
