Great job. I adjust my palettes as well. I even mix professional and student grade together. If I like the colors. Like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get when you open one of my palettes. Lol.

I've just realised I completely forgot to include a link to a pigment chart! I have fixed this now, and linked in the description to Royal Talens' Van Gogh information page. 😁

You managed to take two difficult color-combinations and rearrange them into much more usable palettes. Just another reason why you're 'Badass Becky' to me. 😎

Becky, I'm going with the 'Eccentric, enthusiastic" and being an "old" (in years, but certainly *not* otherwise!!!) lady, I'm adding in "loveable", with great affection. I liked all four paintings, each for a different reason, but the Mill House comes top, and the sparrow second, in spite of my love for the bright colour of no 4, because the first two are mini masterpieces, created by a far from impatient artist using unbalanced and therefore difficult sets of colours, and a very small brush, all for the first time. (Yes, those Royal Talens mini brushes are amazing!) I thought you were going to put them all together into one palette, which is what I would have done, I think, but I can see why you've chosen this route - and again, showing remarkable patience, as well as artistic skill, in working out exactly what you wanted, and succeeding. It's now past my bedtime (00.10 CET) and the washing up still awaits, so, thank you, my Kiwi-Aussie friend, for a relaxing, interesting bedtime video. 😊

Thank you! I kept them in the two palettes because I have run out of larger ones, haha. I may end up moving everything out though and using the smaller Van Gogh palettes for something else - just not sure what yet! Sleep well. 🙂

The palettes make a lot more sense now! The muted one actually looks muted. The original order was confusing to me and I thought maybe I just don’t understand pigments and colors LOL. I have to say, I really, really love that second painting you did. Silhouette paintings are my favorite and I love how bright your sky was. I see you did multiple layers to get that and it really made the pigments pop so much. I will have to be more patient with my paintings and do multiple layers because the result is so worth it. I also love how you created that grass/foliage in the front with the flat brush!
@BeckyTregear3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The hardest thing about layering like that is waiting for the previous layers to dry; I'm so impatient! 😂 I think I might need to do some more silhouettes after this one and seeing yours as well. They are so relaxing and fun to make!

The sunset painting was stunning! At my age I get confused easily so i leave my little palettes alone. Have to say I agree about the first paintings. But I am just not a bright person-so those are my kind of colors. The old millhouse one would look perfect on my living room wall. You should consider selling it. One up tick to old age-we have no filters! You are always a joy to watch.

I have the muted colors set and ai just changed hardly, lol, I did add an ultramarine, permeant red deep and changed the yellow ochre for a raw sienna. I added a permanent orange too, but I'm always changing these pans. I just think titanium buff maybe would fit better in muted colors, beacuse every color that you mix with it turns out to get muted. It's a very versatile color in this sense.
@BeckyTregear2 жыл бұрын
Nice colour choices! Ah, that titanium buff; I kept switching it between palettes because I couldn't decide! 😂 I kept it as "nature" because here in Australia, a lot of gum trees have that colour on their bark so I use it often for Aussie scenes.

Your own Shades of Nature palette seems now a lot more suited for Australian landscapes. The burned umber is very good for painting soils, as in some places, it is rather red. Very good video as usual. See you on Tuesday, Becky.

I like these as much as the other two. To me the paints seem to go together better than other sets for some reason? I do not need to buy more watercolours!😂 I swatching my pencils yesterday (I splurged and got the artists edition of the Ruby Charms book so have to fill them all in again) and I came to the conclusion that the skies in other countries must be dull and washed out because none of the sky blues looked anything like our Australian sky!

They do go really well together! I agree that the sky here seems to be a much more vibrant blue; less pollution maybe?

You did a great job reconfiguring these sets with the colors you had available! I definitely like them better your way. If I were going to make one further change, I’d probably ditch either the azo yellow medium or the azo green as they read very similarly to my eye and I think you could sub in another color that you’d like better.
@BeckyTregear3 жыл бұрын
Ah yes, those two are very similar! I kept them both because I decided to only replace the colours that were doubles in the two sets. 😊

As you mentioned yourself, the reason why the two new paintings didn't hit the spot color-wise compared to the two older ones (still great paintings btw!), is because your re-organization essentially created two semi-primary palettes, instead of true earthy/muted palettes. Especially the colors you bought, they aren't suited for earthy or muted tones (at least, not without mixing them). The reality is, these two palettes released by Royal Talens should have been a single palette, done right. Earth tones are muted for 99% of the nature subjects, so there was no reason trying to create two products there. What you might need to do is to re-organize your palettes as such: one truly earthy palette, and one primaries. In your earth palette, you will have no choice apart of the earthy/muted tones Van Gogh has available in their range. These are: Buff Tit, Naples Yellow Red, Yellow Ochre OR raw sienna (pick one), raw umber OR sepia (pick one), burnt sienna, light oxide red, burnt umber, vandyke brown, payne's grey OR indigo (pick the one you like best), olive green, davy's grey, and Neutral tint (this is essentially your deep purple, VanGogh's version is not really neutral). These are the true muted/earth tones available in their range. Everything else, is just normal, saturated colors (minus their Dusk colors of course). And then, you use the rest of the colors you have left, to put together your saturated, near-primaries palette.
@BeckyTregear2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your thoughts! I had rearranged them in a few different combinations, but there were a few limitations with the colours, unless I bought more of them. Overall I had fun mixing them up, and using both palettes together is what I'll be doing most of the time anyway. 😁
