Nice, small project with Chad and Dan! Is it related to what they are demoing in the videos? Wow, the old shop burnt down and the trees are dead around it. I think I remember you telling us about that once. I hope the unloading of the blue tarp won't be too bad. Putting the garden to bed too! You're pulling some good stuff off that tarp! Don't get rid of that roof hook you made! That's a treasure! Wow, you got that done! It looks nice. The Kenstead looks good! Nice place to put the Vardo! That trailer is sooo cute! Yes, magnesium burns hot! Wonderful that 40 to 50 people came to get your new garage up! Wonderful that you got that built in one day! Wow, you detached your retina of your right eye! Thanks for explaining all your vision adventures. Thanks for sharing this with us! Bless you! The checker board looks nice Lauren! I love how you harmonize!

I'm sorry to hear about your fire. But glad to hear about the outpouring of support from your friends to help you rebuild. We recently completed our building and I'm considering a cubic mini stove such as the one on the tiny house or the diesel heater on the vardo gypsy house. We are looking for the safest heat source for our new building.Safety is our number one concern. I'm planning to build a shed to store the gasoline and diesel fuel. The plan is to locate the fuel shed at least 50 feet from the new building. What I like most about "Ken's Karpentry" channel are the number of great ideas shared by you and your viewers.

I’m glad you’ve recovered from the fire. Cleanup and redding out is such a job! I lost my ability to focus when I had my cataracts removed, too. My medical coverage wouldn’t pay for prescription lenses, so I need my bifocals to work my smartphone. I didn’t know how bad my cataracts were until I had them removed! I gained more tolerance for glare, too. I love Lauren’s little touches on the vardo. She’s got a good eye for the details.

Sounds like you have a lifetime of experiences to share. Oh wait, at our age we have lived most of a lifetime already! BTW, many years ago (50+?) the building codes were updated to mandate heating equipment in a garage being well above the floor (42" or more) to prevent fumes near the floor from being sucked into the system. Most people don't know this and it was a prime source of fires at one time. Of course we now use mostly water based paints / stains so less common these days.

Should you want to rid yourself of some of the anchor bolts, nails and screws and soforth you might contact Dan, Chad or Al Lumnah, who just finished an add on to his barn which included a cement slab with anchor bolts and framing materials plus metal roofing. I know he has future plans for building a larger house and other out buildings. Obviously Chad and Dan might have a use for some of those items that are now in your way. Offer theme a deal they can't refuse. 😊

Listening to your experiences with garage fires reminded me of when my father had a fire in his steel garage. He was soldering a gas tank that came out of his car. He was using an iron when it was too hot and ignited the fumes from the tank even though it was flushed out with water. Saved the car and garage, but a lot of damage to the garage.

The part about walking out the back door and getting hit in the forehead, brings back memories of the attic apartment my brother had a long time ago. The snakes would be under that nice cozy tarp. At least that's how it works on our place, where most of them are rattlers! My wife keeps throwing tarps over things, with the excess laying on the ground. Then later she has me take care of the darned snakes. It looks like you still have a lot of things for building garages. You need to pass them on to Chad or Dan, whichever is still in the garage business. Can you borrow the concrete tools back from Al? I think he's done with pouring slabs this year. Have you ever thought of building a metal workshop, or at least a fire sprinkler system?

@@kenskarpentry You're lucky. We get Red Diamondback and Southern Pacific Rattlesnakes here in San Diego County. Both get big and deadly without treatment that costs over $100,000! So far it's been about 20:0 for me versus the rattlers. Unfortunately, my dogs are not so lucky. I've paid $2000 a piece for 4 vet bills. I looked it up, and you do have timber rattlesnakes, but they are very rare.

Not really a builder, but I am finishing up a bathroom repair after a polybutylene leak that ruined the lousy compression board floor. Had to remove a fiberglass one-piece tub enclosure, demolish and rebuild the floor, add new PEX plumbing, install and connect a tub, install green drywall. Gluing on the plastic tub surround and putting down new flooring is next. Then go under the house and fix the tub drain leak. It's amazing how many trades are involved. KZbin is vital to see how to do all of this. And the mess in the front yard is incredible.

I have the same problem at my place after 47 years. Been slowly sorting through and giving away stuff. Anything I haven't used in 10 years is a candidate for the "gotta go" pile. Took two carloads to the church tag sale and gave way a pile of camping gear. It's amazing how much room I have gained in the garage. OTOH, it's only a one car garage so will do this again in a few years.
