Tim, I can't thank you enough! I watched many videos on this subject, but yours was the one that got it done. I did try clearing the codes with my cheap-o code reader, but it wasn't picking anything up and didn't solve the problem. I do have a FORSCAN that hooks to my laptop. I was able to get in there and clear the codes with that. BOOM! Problem solved. Thanks again!

Tim, I wanted to say amazing video. I’ve token my vehicle to two mechanics and neither one of them could find the issue, both recommended changing out the wire harness. I myself went back checked the fuses, cleaned ground cables and nothing. As a last resort before taking my Ford to the dealership I got on KZbin in desperation and your video was the fourth one I saw and you were right on the money sir, thank you so much for making and sharing this video. Yep, once the module detects incorrect current flow it shuts the circuit down to protect itself. Great info Tim!

Thank you. I just wish they designed it to sense a short but not disable for an open. I’m sure they have a technical reason for this but I suspect it’s more like others have said...to force a visit to the dealership.

same on my 2012 f350. ELM327 didn't clear it. Modus Ultra and Forscan both worked. So now when i go out of town using a trailer i have to bring forscan with me in case the trailer shorts out the system.. thanks a lot ford..

Thanks for this video, my left blinker in front hyperflashed and left rear didn't work and no brake light left rear, it was a code on the bcm and 3 auto parts stores couldn't see or clear it. A local electrical car guy found it cleared and 1 minute 2011 f150 rolling legal again.

Having same issue with 2011 f150 Lariat ecoboost 2wd. Original status: both sides fast blink. Right side front, mirror and bottom rear light blink but top rear does not. Left side mirror blinks but front and neither rear does. I replaced top rear right light bulb and that fixed right side and now slow blinks everything good. I replaced front and both rear light bulbs on left side and now front, mirror lights work but neither rear blinks. Left side still fast blinks. I tried removing negative terminal from battery and bridging positive terminal to negative cable for 1 hour hoping would clear code but no work. I tried regular odb2 reader but no codes found. Swapped relays from right to left side and checked fuses nothing worked to fix left side. I just ordered the recommended forscan odb2 device and purchased 1 year licence for forscan. Will find out tomorrow if that works to clear bcm. Then i am going to use forscan to stop those 3 annoying chimes at startup and add 6 blinks to blinker and who knows what else! There should be easier way built in to clear these codes. This is major f up by Ford. All this hassle for a fin light bulb. Major fail.

Great video! I had the same problem with my rear driver aide turn signal. Though when I hooked up the tuner, it did not show any type of code related to the turn signal. Only code I had was for my catalytic converter which has always intermittently come on even after replacing them. Anyways I cleared all codes anyways just in hope it would somehow fix the problem. Sure enough my turn signal began to work. Thank so much for the information!

Im back again 🤪 so i took my truck to a shop they cleared the bcm code and the signal worked for a short time and right back to not working so i have diagnose the problem to the LED lights i have in the front . My question is how do i get the bcm to work properly with the LED lights i know it has something to do with the low voltage from the led lights thats triggering the bcm .

Do you have a video on the BCM for Ford F150? I have replaced my bulbs on the front turn signal twice and had no problems up to 3-6 months. Now, when the engine is off the turn signal works with lights on. Will work with engine on and lights off but won't work with lights and engine on. I have switchback Amber and white turn signal LED lights.

The hyper flash could also be caused by led bulbs if your vehicle came with holagen bulbs unless you replace the flasher relay with a led flasher relay

My 2011 F150 has the exact same systems. The local Firestone shop said there was no BCM code indicated so they couldn't clear it. Fuse is fine, voltage at Fuse is fine, no voltage in top or bottom turn signal socket. The door open light does come on. Is the lack of voltage an indication of short in wiring harness? Or could it still be the BCM and the Firestone shop simply had poor code reader?

The first code reader I tried did not work and showed no codes. I plugged in my FORSCAN and was able to see and reset the codes. Worked like a dream! Of course, it took a few hours of troubleshooting and watching several videos until I came upon this one. Fixed it in no time. I also have a 2011 F150.

Had an '11 F150 come in with no left turn. No codes. Had some janky wiring behind left tailight. Repaired that, no joy. Nobpower coming out of BCM, replaced BCM and all good. Figure janky wiring fried the driver in the bcm

Probably but it could cause issues with idle control and shifting patterns until the PCM relearns those values. Just have to be clear that it could cause unsafe driving or stalling condition as result.

This is the exact thing that I have going on with my truck. Took out LED break lights and put back in oem bulbs. Now no break lights. The issue is, the FIXD OBM scanner pulls the codes, but cannot clear them. I went to Napa, they could not see any codes. Not sure what to do next.

Did you figure it out? Mine is 2011 f150 5.0 xlt supercab and doing what his did and yours exactly. I replaced the rear led's that worked until they quit so I replaced the entire fixture, rear driver side , and now no break or signal light in rear on drivers side only and the front hyperflashes. I havnt done any scan or code stuff because I don't know how.

Really, Ford? Really!?!? If any Ford engineers are reading this, here's a clue. Not every thing needs to be controlled by a computer. Turn signals don't need to be computer controlled. That mechanical switch in the column has worked for decades and decades without any issue. Dome lights don't need to be computer controlled. Put simple switch in the door jam (no, not the door latch, the jam!) and run a ground wire from the dome light to it. If this is too complicated for you, just open and shut a refrigerator a few times. You'll get it. Windows don't need to be computer controlled. It's a window. It goes up and down. That's all. I want it to go up or down when and where I want it to, not when or where the computer thinks it's a good idea. If I am incapable of rolling up or down the windows, then I am likely incapable of operating a motor vehicle. It's like Braille on the drive-thru ATM. The next time you or one of your engineer buddies say, "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if...", as someone who's been stuck in a pasture with a thunderstorm rolling in and a window that keeps rolling itself down, let me go ahead and answer that question right now. No. No, it wouldn't.

They're certainly not the only ones who do this. I've seen this on other makes as well...VW/Audi and Chrysler products come to mind. Once the code is set, the 'driver' for the light is disabled, most likely to protect the BCM from a shorted out condition. The crappy part for a typical vehicle owner - a battery reset generally will not restore functionality of the affected light circuit. It needs to be reset via a scan tool that can talk to the module. :(

It’s possible that would work but I haven’t tried and for the reasons others stated it can cause issues with idle learn and transmission shifts and I try to avoid that with customer vehicles. I would probably try it on my own!
