Tapping into the speaker wires of a prop to send the sound to computer speakers almost makes a completely new prop. It makes the sound cleaner and clearer. I've had several props where it was hard to understand what they were saying and once I used external amplified speakers it was crisp and clear. Also, thanks for watching, I really appreciate.

Thanks for the video Steve, you make this stuff look so easy and I've been able to learn some new skills watching your videos. But now I have a question.. the computer speakers you used here look like they are AC powered..... how would you keep them weather proof in a outdoor prop, or would hiding them inside the prop be enough to protect the speakers and guests?
@TheMakersCave

The answer to that is easy, there are several answers. Keep them covered with $ store tupperware. I use outside garden speakers. During springime/summer a lot of store have them on sale and some are even shaped like rocks, the perfect disguise.

Hi! When the motor is running does it sound like it's under any strain or do you hear any clicks or grinding?

Hi Steve, I have a headless horseman I bought at HomeDepot a few years ago. . Home Accents Holiday. MPN. 5124513. When you walk by he’s supposed talk . He lights up but you can’t hear sound anymore. I’m thinking the sound box is bad as opposed to just a speaker. How do I find a sound box. I’m having a hard time finding animatronic replacement parts.
@TheMakersCave

Sadly, that's the problem with these props, parts are hard to find, and it seems that the sound portion of the main boards are the first thing to go. I have quite a few in my shop for repair where the customers says the parts all work, there's just no sound. I would probably use a sound card that is activated in when the prop starts. But you'd have to find a wire to tie into to tell when the prop is activated, that's the tricky part.

I have a possessed pumpkin from Halloween spirit that the speaker stopped working. It’s just static pops. Any thoughts on that? It doesn’t look like I can just swap a speaker cause there’s so many more intricate things attached to it and soldered.

Hi! Thanks for watching. Are you talking about the 7ft animatronic pumpkin? If you are is it just the sound that is out or does it still move and light up?

I had a Loes prop still in the box. I did the same thing. Went into the main board, cut the connections for the speaker, added the plugs. Here's a short video of the result. Be sure to listen to wind in the background, you can clearly hear it in the amped version. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eai7i2aNbdiHn8U

So what if the speaker is 8 ohms and 10 watts does it have to be exact?
@TheMakersCave
@TheMakersCave Жыл бұрын
If those are the specs of speaker that you are replacing you want to last least match them, so you'd want a speaker that can handle at least 10 Watts. You can always get a speaker that can handle more than 10 Watts and still be Ok, just don't go crazy or you might not hear a lot as the board may not be able to drive the higher wattage speaker. The 8 ohms is pretty common so I would stick with that.

How would I upgrade a two wire motion sensor when others have three or more wires?
