Are you sure the impedance of the coils was correct? To me the coils looked bad. The meter you have cannot measure impedance. I really don't know what you were doing when you used it. It is incapable of measuring what is required. I am very familiar with those meters as I used them when I was training in a radio transmitting station in New Zealand. That was where I got my training and did courses to give me the correct way of doing things. Those meters are very basic and not suitable for this kind of work. Where I live now in Australia and it takes 6 years of training and work experience to be able to work on such machines. The slip rings looked ok. The induction current when starting is high because all the coils present a short circuit until the natural impedance kicks in. If you have not been trained and have no idea then you should not work on this equipment ever. All connections should have been renewed as over time they will cause overheating and possibility of fire. I suggest from now on you do not work on motors or generators until you have training to do so. This is a genuine attempt to reach out to you so you do not cause yourself or others to be in danger. The risk of fire is the main problem. Please be careful. I am sharing my knowledge with young people on the internet and 2 people have thanked me and 1 girl no longer works on electric motors and Generators and I strongly recommend you not to as well. I communicated with one girl who did this work to say that she did things right and she said she had the correct training which was very obvious to me. All the best as you seem to be good with motors. One bit of advice stay away from multi cylinder Diesel engines that need tuning as a mismatch of the injectors can break the crankshaft. You could take the injectors and pump to a specialist who would set them up on his special machine. You will be proficient at doing this when you can understand and do what this girl does who is trained.
