I bought a brand new clamp and the swivel pad was falling off. So I just held it on and tightened the clamp all the way. Then I held the back part of the swivel pad collar (which was loose) in a bench vice. I had to do that diagonally for clearance at the very corner of the metalworking bench vice. Then I heated the collar with a torch (jet lighter in my case) for a minute. If you were working something thick, you should get it red hot but this collar is rather thin. Then I just nipped the vice in 1/16 th or 1/32 nd turn. Let it cool in the vice and took it out. Worked fine for me. Cool video. This comment is just for someone who has the same problem as I did and doesn't want to go back for a warranty replacement. The heating wasn't really necessary, but good practise I guess. If you tighten it too much it will no-longer move freely.

Good fix Bob, I have a large clamp with the end missing too. I'll probably do this fix. Cheers.

I got a comment about buying the swivel, I didn't know they were available, but buying is not really my channel's style. Are you going to make a video of the repair?

@@doublewide6 I may do Bob. I have a lot on at the moment so it won't be for a while.

What do you have your outside vise mounted to. Wood post with concrete?
@doublewide64 жыл бұрын
Concrete with a sleeve so the post is removable in the Winter. It is all square tubing 2.5 thick wall. I left it rust because it blends in with the house and bushes like camo.

Probably the c-clamp was used to compress piston into the brake caliper before removing caliper.

Pretty sure that's not how you measure clamp size. I would imagine it's the max size of the opening which would make that a 12 inch clamp.

They don't make replacement ones that big....I've tried to find one and the biggest I can find is 1-1/4", this clamp needs a 1-1/2".
