Quite surprising that the rear stubs are part of the axle casing and that Toyota didn't make at least the rear hub seal area replaceable like on early Land Rover series, similar with the front swivel balls, on Series and Defender these are a bolt on part and easy to replace, only the military 101 Forward control has the swivel balls as part of the axle as I remember. Keep up the good work 👍

All this looks so easy and clear and understandable. But in reality this repairing are very very expensive over her in germany. Each of the things shown in the episodes. I really like this series.

Were close with the repair but you should have a cut a root gap in and then welded it up, made sure there was no undercut blended the start and stop and left it at that no need to make it ugly with the flat bar. But anyways it won’t break just looks like a mechanic did it not a welder ahah

What is the "bearing lock" he is referring to? Is it something like "Locktite 641"?

You can bearing lock the inside bearing but the outside needs to be free for adjustment all wheel bearing sets require free play of between 0.002' to 0.004" thousands of an inch freeplay to allow for thermal expansion. Sorry Paul your wrong as with moly grease hurting crown wheel and pinion surfaces.

Im not familiar with these land cruisers being an American, but i thought i saw a video where someone was replacing the axle stubs/spindles on the rear in a kit to widen the rear axle to match the width of the front? I think that would also be a good option for a repair too? I think it also gives a gvm upgrade too maybe?
@marcgucciardo1942

When the diesel v8 was fitted the front end was also widened . However the rear track remained narrow. There are rear axle conversions to match the front track
@forreststrong797
@forreststrong797 Жыл бұрын
@@marcgucciardo1942 oh ok thanks for clarification, I thought I remembered seeing a video about that. Is there a kit to weld on new spindles that also widen the rear track to match the front? Something that comes with new spindles would seem like a good upgrade and repair if the bearing surfaces are wiped out especially to match the front track width on vehicles that have the v8. I thought in the video I saw there was multiple options from spacers or different offset wheels to a bolt on or weld on kit all the way up to a fabricated axle housing. I tried finding the video but I just can't remember what it was or where I saw it.
