Repairing a Hole in the Bottom of a Fuel Transfer Tank With JB Weld

Got a free 100 gallon fuel transfer tank, but unfortunately it has a hole in it. Lets see if we can fix that hole!

Great video Randy. That spot that you repaired with JB weld looks like intergranular corrosion to me. This usually appears as a bubble in the metal. It usually happens where the corrosion attacks the boundary layer in the metal, which causes this outer layer of metal to delaminate from the boundary layer and it flakes off just like a piece of wood over time. If left untreated, this corrosion can indeed eat a hole clear through the steel. What causes this condition to occur is poor heat treatment process by the steel manufacturer. JB weld should keep the tank from leaking for awhile, but once that corrosion starts, its very hard to stop it from delaminating from the boundary layer completely.

Do you really think its from poor heat treatment process by the steel manufacturer or just bad paint or scratched off paint and sitting in the weather?

Yes, it is! JB weld seems to hold up really well, did the fuel tank on my truck, I'd like to say that was 10 years ago, still working!
