Escaping heat kept messing up my Mamod TE1a. I got him in the end, I blocked all the holes up and connected the fire box to the smoke box with a fake water tank under the boiler :o)

Hello Mr. Appleton, I wonder your opinion on Wilesco traction engines. I'm thinking mainly about the D 405. I'm sure it won't be as serviceable as a good model steam engine should be, but if kept lubricated and maintained, do you think it'll run well and long enough to be worth the 300 USD (about 230 pounds) brand new?

I don't really do steam toys, but the little Wilesco steam engines are OK I suppose - and very cheap ....

Did you use a lithium based grease or a graphite based grease on the axles?

Find yourself a proper pinstriping brush. The job of lining will go much easier. You will go mad trying to do it with a regular paint brush.
