WOW! THAT'S ALL THAT'S INSIDE ONE OF THOSE TYPES OF IRONS. (I KNOW THIS STUFF, BUT STILL I'M IMPRESSED WHEN I SEE THINGS LIKE THIS) BRILLIANT : ) i already have the perfect transformer core to make one of these, out of an old electric hair shavers. just need to use the online calculator to get my primary winding's right, with the proper gauge. i think ill add in a little fan to help with cooling(that comes on when i plug it in and switch it on) and a light to see what your soldering better that switches when i push the trigger button... (plus a big back EMF cap for the mains.) loved this one, great video.. THANK YOU FOR SHOWING IT TO US!!! : )

I belive it's gal coated wire soft metal with nickel coating perhaps it's tungsten wire as well that materials work well also for ground strapping or used with ferrite magnets experiments like gal coated washers you can try out that experiment it's cool you need 1 speaker magnet 2 gal coated washers same diameter as the speaker magnet, and you need 1 speaker magnet same size but brake it exactli at 2 peace's flip them around you should see an effect north/south %\% ratio magnetic strenght the washer is more stronger then all magnets combined .

My original solder gun was more the same as yours i got it for $10 in a sale years back but with not spare tips , did me well until the tip burnt out ,t tried some thick copper wire for the tip but never got it hot enough , i will hunt for it and try some steel wire .
