Repairing an HP PhotoSmart 6525 Printer Not Printing Black Ink

I will continue to run some more tests with this and see if it can get back to tip-top shape! It may need a hotter liquid mixture to really get flowing again. I hope this helps you, particularly if you need to take apart your printer to get to the printhead. I have also seen that new printheads are available on eBay for ~$25.
EDIT: 9/16/21 - I ended up selling this printer for $35+$21 shipping!

I have the 5520 that uses the same cartridges. I did the same thing and it helped for the most part. I have one more black cartridge left and when it’s gone I’m tossing the darn thing. The 564 cartridges cost over $75 for the four pack. The printer cost me less than $100 ten years ago so I got my money’s worth out of it. On Prime day in the fall I’m just buying a newer hp envy printer. I found that the cartridges cost half of what I was paying and they only take two cartridges instead of four. You have to let the wet paper towel set under the print head for over 15 minutes and it will do a better job of loosening the hardened black ink.

Oh my gosh! I just did this twice! Once with the rubbing alcohol and again with warm water and so much ink came out and still absolutely nothing from my print quality report. The black is just not showing up at all! I’ve literally tried everything! So frustrating! Thanks for the video though, I wouldn’t have been able to successfully take it apart twice without it.

@@yenterpriseonebay Take the print head out and run it under hot tap water until there is no more ink coming out. Don't be overly concerned about the circuit board. Just blow the water off, especially out of the cable connectors, and let it sit a little while to air dry. Eons ago we would dip computer boards in liquid freon to clean off solder flux. The scanner lid support arm is easier to take off from the bottom. Then when rotated up to the scanner lid it slides right off of the stud.

Thanks so much for this video. I have the same problem with same printer model and now understand the situation better....especially the part about getting black print outs without the black ink working. That was a head scratcher. I think I'll try the water and paper towels but in the end will probably opt for a new printer. This was so helpful regardless.

Will this work with the 6510 printer too? I have the same issue. I've replaced all the cartridges cause I had it sitting in a closet for a long time with no use, and I still can't get the black working. I tried running the cleaning cycle a couple times, no luck.

Thanks for the video. I don’t have the patience to take apart my printer, so I’m going to buy a new printer. This is the first time in 6 years that this printer has failed me. I loved this printer until last week. It got me through so many assignments, flash cards, documents that I needed for my kids & the programmed printables!!! What printer do you recommend?

I heard good things from Brother printers. HP usually does fine, this series of printer in particular just seems to have this issue especially if not used frequently. If you are using your's a lot, I would go with a laser printer instead of inkjet. The toner cartridges are more expensive, but last longer than ink cartridges and never dry up.

Dang came here to say this in hopes that there was something I was overlooking, find it baffling that when I do print audit report it prints out the black lettering but doesn’t print in the black box 😑
