I just got a trumpet, myself. There's a dent and am watching non-stop videos like these to try to get the dent out myself. Thanks, dude! You're awesome!

I include a little O-ring before the first 3rd slide stop nut to eliminate noise when kicking the slide. A tiny felt washer would work, too.

Always great to watch a master craftsman at work! I'd definitely watch a 3hr video of this resto - especially if it was broken up into 1/2hr parts....

I saw every minute of this video. I love Stradivarius trumpets. The way you work the instrument... with care, with respect to the design. You did a great job to bring that trumpet back to life. Excellent job! Excellent video.

Wow! I can't believe I watched an hour about restoring a Bach Strad 37 which is my (1985) horn. I have a local "wizard" who maintains my horns, but this is so eye opening. My only modifications are adding a brace on the 3rd valve slide to enable me to play it as an 'A' Trumpet, and 'O' rings from my local hardware store on the 3rd valve slide to reduce 'clanking' as I play the low notes. Love the video, love the care you took, 5* if I could give it to you! Bravo to You!!!!

Great video, interesting to see all the different kinds of skills and tools used for the range of damage. I'm the son of a blacksmith and I am curious though, is the amount of repair and overall cost of that much repair worth it for the cost vs value of that trumpet? My father's business eventually went out of business in 2005 due to culture migrating to a throw away society. I wish I'd thought of him maybe migrating his shop into instrument repair before that as he had the skills, he could make or fix anything and refused to migrate to much of any kind of modern ways, but his shop was geared to repair of small motors and repair & manufacturing obsolete parts made mostly of steel.

I really enjoyed your video showing how to fix issues with the Bach Strad. Good job on the first class work. I do have a few suggestions on the video. Most cameras have mediocre auto focus. Let me suggest a Panasonic S5ii or S5iiX;; by far the best camera for the features it provides. The AF is excellent, but for difficult areas let me suggest you have an assistant to simply tap the spot on the LCD you want to focus on and the camera will do the job perfectly. 90% of focus issues will be easily done in AF. But when you have to focus on a small spot in the corner of the video use your assistant to touch the LCD on the needed spot for focus. On the S5ii you can also touch focus on a spot and when the object of the spot moves the focus will travel with it. What's more, the colors on the Panasonic are superior to most other cameras at a fraction of the cost of those cameras---specifically Canon and Sony. Next, (I have these same issues), stop eating carbohydrates. They are poison for body. I mean, no more than 0 to 20 grams of carbs a day. You will lose weight and your neuropathy will cease. No bread. Plenty of fat, lots of butter is fine. Good fats, no margarine or seed oils. Do that every day, no cheating. You will lose weight and save your life. I'm 77 right now, and if I had not done this very thing I am sure I would not be around to live to 77. My son has the same weight issues, but will not listen, so he is putting his life in peril. You are doing such good and careful work you should do what is needed to keep you around longer. I cut out carbs and lost almost 100 pounds, and totally lost neuropathic nerve pain. What a great video and great explanations. Thanks so much.

Do you think a wooden, or maybe 3D printed plastic form for inside the bell would work? Was also thinking of casting an aluminum one. Steel ones for sale are expensive.
@slektektiv7 ай бұрын
Once had a Strad that a collegue of mine dropped so that the bell got damaged in a kind of «spirally fashion». Was almost hypnotized looking at it as I was going on stage and had to play it just minutes after…) - Long story short: got it repaired, but after that it kind of «died», soundwise. I don´t know if that is known to happen? Could it be that the metal stretched in the repair process? Or was it just in my head, because of the «trauma»…?😅

Fascinating. You're like a chiropractor for trumpets. Impressive craftsmanship. Where did you learn how to do this? Have you ever come across a trumpet that couldn't be repaired? I had a Bach 37* in high school. Haven't played for years, but I just picked up a used Bach 43 to start practicing again.

you dont polish the inner slide metal of the three slides? just curious great vid!
@trumpetdivine5 ай бұрын
@@swoodc thank you! The slides receive a small amount of polishing by virtue of the silver polishing process. However, it is not necessary (or recommended) to regularly polish slides with something abrasive, even like 1800 grit paper or finer. Polishing in any form removes metal, and eventually leads to leaks. The silver polish just happens to remove less than a micron.

@Paddy-power Жыл бұрын
It could go for 1000 too much repair and cleaning
@illitrait7 күн бұрын
@@cmorales5 ...you are absolutely correct about the investment to restore a *valuable* Bach. I reckon $500 is way too low for the amount of work that was required - you can also see that the work was done in a proper, fully kitted out workshop. These things cost money to put together and maintain. And finally there is the deep knowledge and experience that underpins the success of such a restoration - as the man said, "…it’s not the tools, it’s the technique."

Just kills me how these horns get so beat up. I mean I’ve got a 1929 King Liberty that’s been passed thru 5 family members hands with what I would call near perfect condition. Dent free, but the silver plate has worn thru where fingers have rubbed thru and the gold wash inside the bell is thin.

Just a suggestion. In stead of placing the oxidized parts on carpet would of been better to use an extra rug or suitable cloth.
