Earlier this week a water bomber sent to California from Quebec was hit and damaged by a drone. Now the company that builds these planes says the part is one the way. David Zura explains.

He will if he's ever caught. He will also be seeing a $150,000 fine and a year in jail. When wild fires start, air spaces are forbidden in that region. Notices on on every aviation site and in some cases mainline news.

They already know who it is, he's an amateur photographer and the drone was unregistered because he was not required to because it was under 250 grams.

Probably the best plane for this to happen to in terms of repairs. They don't have de-icing boots or leading edge slats, just sheet aluminum panels riveted on.

It was an amateur photographer, he took down videos off IG. But yes, they know who he is. Going to be facing some heavy fines.

Québec signed a deal in 1994 to lease 2 CL415s to LA County each September for yp to 6 months. So these plaes were likely in the region from the very start. Québec announced it was sending more. And in winter, maintenance cycle is performed to keep these old planes in good shape and remove rust if they landed in ocean. Until DEHAVILLAND Canada starts deliveries of the 515, each remaining CL 215 or 415 aircraft is very valuable and treated as such. The largest fleets are in France (at Nîmes) , Greece and Croatia.

Manitoba repairs their water-bombers at a defunct Air Canada repair hangar across the road from me where I’ve seen at least 8 shiny, clean units leave each Spring and return looking like coal miners after a hard shift each Fall! Unfortunately as it’s presently -28C atm, so I doubt they’ll be leaving anytime soon as there’s not any heater on board!

Not to be too critical but the water bombers we’re not sent by Canada. They are leased to the state of California every winter by Quebec. My point is they were not just sent they are being leased. Now since this fire has escalated Quebec had said they will send two more planes to California and other provinces are sending other help. Who pays for this has not been disclosed but the original two planes were being paid for by California. Hope they get this terrible situation under control soon.

Québec has 8 CL-415; 4 are in California right now (one of which was hit by the drone), while the 4 remaining are in Québec for winter maintenance. Québec also has other planes and helicopters, it doesn't just have the CL-415 And each province have their own aircrafts and all help each other during summer

@@PatG-xd8qn yah I'm guessing the 2 they are sending down right now will end up staying down there and once they feel that 2 will be enough to keep fighting the fires they will send the other 2 back.

@@pin65371 Actually, every winter since 1993, Québec rents two CL-415 and their pilots to California, and then they come back to Canada in May This is why Québec's CL-415 were the first Canadian planes spotted over the fires in the last week, as they were already there since November
