In this opportunity I bring you another repair of PC power sources. As the repairs of PC power sources vary depending on the type of failure, what we should always do is identify the type of failure, then raise possible solutions and we become familiar with how to repair and diagnose the failure in these equipment. So today I bring you the third repair of this section that we will solve by applying a technique that from now on I will be using as long as I have the voltage of stand bye and power on. Equipment: ATX power supply of 600 W. Fault: Power source does not turn on Diagnostic: It supplies only the power on and stand bye voltage. Possible solutions: 1) Short circuit problems at the source output. 2) Short capacitors. 3) Bi-diodes in short. 4) Review the PWM. 5) Measure the oscillation of the PWM to detect the short. Everything described above are the possible scenarios that could be presented to us. Whenever we go to check a PC power source, the first thing we should do, is to use a 200W lamp in series to the load, which will serve as protection, the way this lamp is used, it is really a serial connection to the feeding of the equipment that we are going to review, in case there is a short the lamp turns on and we avoid damaging any device in perfect condition, besides our security since we could suffer an accident, for that reason it is very important that we always work in a safe way. The next step is to identify at what stage the failure might be. In this type of repair when we have the tensions of stand bye and power on and our source does not start, I apply an interesting technique taught by Professor Carlos Guada, the technique is to repair the source of power using another source of power, but It should be noted that to apply this technique is very important to have both tensions, otherwise it can not be performed. To apply it, the first thing we have to do is disconnect the transistors, mosfet or electronic switch from our damaged source in the primary, ignite our and observe the oscillation of it. If our source oscillates means that it has already started a part of the source, the next would be to use the other PC source, the output voltage of this source is going to connect to the damaged source, but we are placing voltage by voltage, ie , first we try with the 12V, then with the 5V and so on, we turn on both sources, but with power on and standbye separately. When we turn on both sources we measure the oscillation of the damaged source and the output voltage, if the voltage is present and our damaged source stops oscillating it means that there is a short in that output and to repair this fault, we must concentrate on revising this stage, if it keeps oscillating and goes off our good source means that there is a short in that output from the damaged source which we must correct, it may be that shorted a bidiodo, coil, condesadores, among others, if the oscillation is maintained and the source does not fall, it means that that tension is fine and we must check the other output, until we get the fault. This technique is very useful because it allows us to accelerate the repair process, it is very important that you follow that series of steps to repair your PC source. In this channel you will find all kinds of repair from the simplest to the most complex, but the most important thing is that you learn how to repair your electronic equipment, so the invitations to subscribe, activate the bell to be pending notifications, so be alert when upload a new video.
