You really need to start using a bucket, trash bag, backpack, or something to put the small pieces of metal in. I am noticing a trend of people putting metal next to roadways and you should show cops and other people doing the same thing that you are responsible. I know you guys say that you are going to pick up everything but realize most people will not. It is better to do your due diligence now before they start banning magnet fishing on bridges.

So a fun fact place I grew up has a river running straight through the middle of it, and my father used to always make jokes that the "skeletons" in the closet of the town were in the river. I never believed it until someone found a disposed of Lee Enfield .303 in the river in a tarp that was weighted down with a few rocks. It wasn't found with a magnet, however, it was found during low tide when someone hooked onto the tarp with a fishing line and pulled a chunk of it to shore. The water was calm enough and shallow enough to wade out and swim to it. It's amazing how much the water can hide dark history.

I think you may have exposed a flaw and not a fault. Meaning, law enforcement might be improved by having a system where civilians and a detective, trained in magnet and metal detection, work together to gather evidence, solve crimes. Last time I checked polluting is a crime. Good point on the calls, cause most of the LEO contacted seem either mostly disinterested or confused on what to do.

I got a 1500 pound Brute force magnet. Found it on the bottom of the marina with my 550 Kratos bobber! Someone had it on too thin a rope that broke. Took my 550 and my husband's 950 Kratos clamp dredge to recover the Brute from some rebar. We had been in the market for one, finders keepers! Made sure to use a heavy rope on it so we don't loose it too.
