Hi Ricky. Like the channel and nice to see once in a while that the thumbnail reflects the actual content of the video! Good to see the diagnosis of failed control modules and wiring connectors, but for me, I was waiting for the reason for the leak. Dav asked why this happened and you mentioned a few possabilities, however, I was waiting for that diagnosis at the end too. This would have made the video far better and more complete.
@REPerformanceUK4 ай бұрын
Yeah I’ll summarise what could cause it on the update but the next step would be to water test it to make sure it’s not a proper leak. I think the rear window got left down…..

Those modules that live under the carpet should be “potted” so that they don’t suffer when they get wet. They are not really serviceable, so potting them would make sense.

You've fixed the "effect" but not the root cause of the water leak - it will happen again! I have a similar problem on my Audi TTs Roadster where the carpet behind the passenger seat is wet. The root cause is a blocked drainage tube. Search for "How to: Audi TT Mk2 (8J) Roadster Drip Tray & Drain Hose Access" on the Audi TT forum and I suspect it's the same fix for the R8 Roadster. These should be cleaned at least once a year and should be part of a service but they're not! The article also explains why the drain tubes contain a coarse foam insert - if you remove it then it increases cabin noise. Great channel by the way!

Pretty sure he will fix the root cause and won’t send it out with the problem still there but how long do you want the videos to go?

Crikey, they don't want that carpet to come out do they. I like the way we all do the bolt you can't see, stick yer hand down to find it then close eyes and go in with socket and ratchet to undo it. I will nver understand why electric modules are placed where water will collect. Good work and a bit of a laugh as usual.

Well hung dork technik. Stick your electronic modules in a convertible where they can absorb a good dose of rainwater. That way you can sell lots of replacements plus the huge labour fitting costs. Surprised they aren't bolted to the underside of the car somewhere for easier access...

I had an Audi Avant A4 B5 anyway the rear screen wash wasn't pumping out the rear jet was frozen. I was pressing and pressing it for the screen wash to work the pump was going an unbeknown to me the pipe where it's jubilee clip together in a factory under the dashboard by the glove box had pops off it was never tied up in the factory the Jubilee clip. It resulted in 4 gallons of water underneath the carpet on the passenger side took 3 days for the dehumidifier to suck all the water out. Another reason you get water on a carpet is the the drain for the scuttle blocks up and then overflows through the heater fan housing. I just pop them rubber drains out so the water actually comes and doesn't gets stuck in that silly rubber slit thing..

oh man never unplug the wiring harness without disconnecting the battery first mates! And when you turned the key on after you unpluged the CAN gateway module under the driver seat, of course the lights are gonna christmas tree on you as now all the CAN bus modules are not able to talk to the ECU so ECU throws all dash lights to blinkin on! You can seriously damage the main ECU as well as the 35 other microcontrollers in the other car modules when you unplug a module while car is HOT connected to the Battery mate.
@REPerformanceUK4 ай бұрын
My 10 years as development engineer would argue with what you just posted mate! 😉
@davewalker39794 ай бұрын
@@REPerformanceUK OK you probably right, but I also have a 1.5 kilowatt radio transmitter license in 2 countries and build custom transmitter amps. So I am used to hundreds of volts and lots of amps and I guess since CAN is 2.5 volts and milliamps, there is no surge on the various microcontroller's pins in the modules in the car so you are right then and leaving a 3 volt module hot while you fluctuate pin connections is definitely OK! 👍
@davewalker39794 ай бұрын
@@REPerformanceUK Oh but the only thing that I seen that was bad was the water in any of the modules that as soon as you see water in a car's electronics you need to shut off and pull batteries and then hair dryer all the modules fully dry which means full disasembly of them after plucking out of car first. The water is the only real thing I see that you did not connect the battery for that was wrong. You are right that you can plug modules in and out while hot when they are bone dry inside with little worry.

Interestingly, at 23.50 (and for most of the video) you are in a position that every plumber in the land knows only too well. So you're banjaxed whichever trade you choose............ As an aside, WTF are they doing putting sensitive electronics in the bottom of an effing convertible ? That's like putting a Range Rover battery in a place where you can't remove it without removing half the bonnet. No, wait......

I once bought a Mazda RX-7 that had been flooded inside this guy's garage (in Espinho, Portugal) for about two months. This is because the garage was underground and the flood waters inundated the whole first floor to the point he had to live somewhere else for almost two years (the entire street flooded). Once I got the car, I wouldn't even call it a project car, more like a factory rebuild from scratch ;) Oh, almost forgot, it was salty water from the sea. Worth it? Well, I have a brand new "Hiroshima Screamer". What's this Audi's excuse? Also, from experience, I can only imagine the stench. Glad KZbin does not have smells, yet.
