It’s actually a very well written and comprehensive book kzbin.infoUgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 . I wanted to pair this with an updated book on local codes to start planning a post-retirement dream shop. I think I have just about everything I need between the two. The extra plans available for purchase towards the end are priced almost as much as full home plans, not little sheds however.

Why didn’t you use the supplied bearing plate (black base)? I’m not sure the pins are for load as much as they are for up lift.
@ScottBrownCarpentry6 жыл бұрын
I used some plastic shims instead, under the centre of the post. The base is the same width as the post, thought it might hinder the drip edge

The Simpson brackets should help post last longer as it’s now up of the ground. Looks well

Makes exactly zero difference to H4 timber. The bracket will rust before the timber rots.

@timcorbett96295 жыл бұрын
@@ScottBrownCarpentry I found when using those plug makers, if you drill a hole in some scrap ply the outside diameter of the cutter, clamp that onto the piece, it will guide the cutter. Makes for cleaner plugs. I'm always doing that onsite, without a drill press too.

Advant tapes from toolstation or axminster. Called viceversa metric only and printed both sides of the blade. Axminster also do metric only steel rules. I only use metric only now as it stops the old boys I work with shouting confused feet and metric confused measurements at me as the know I only have a metric tape on me.

OMG Avocado and raw salmon, you guys know how to live. Very aesthetic result, nice work. I'm a little concerned about that post mount- all the force is concentrated in a small area. Seems wrong. I'd want one that would spread the force over the post. I guess Simpson knows what they're doing though. Cheers!

Why is your country’s preferred method of building houses still wood ? In the uk we build in brick .cheers
@tubestick006 жыл бұрын
Wood is cheaper. Its 100% renewable. It's far more pleasant to work with. Its lighter. Our country is not dark and rainy 365 days a year. The yanks, canadians, Scandinavians, aussies most places I reckon use timber frames buildings unless your talking a basement or something. Brick is very weak. It has terrible performance in earthquakes. We use non structural brick as a cladding here but never as the structure anymore.
@tubestick006 жыл бұрын
Not too mention you say "still wood" but wood is the newer thing. Building in stone is ancient. So what do you mean still building in wood??

Great Videos Scott..but I've question; Would it have been better to use a spade bit or Forstener bit to counter sink the holes in the posts and secure them with a nut & washer, as opposed to your method? Just asking as to why you went down that route as I'm always keen to learn. Cheers..
