Man! I was looking for a video about this type door! It’s so stressful! There is no video abt this one. I cant find where to adjust the heigtht of this door. Now I know

Thank you! I couldn't find any other internal closers video. I love your sense of humor too. Great job trouble shooting old school! Some one might correct me on this but I found that tightening the screw at the top of the door, that faces inward when the door is open out, (it shows at frame 2:08 in your video but the door is off at that point), adjusts the door up a little so it doesn't scrape. Without any dis-assembly.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. It helped me tremendously; I needed to remove glass door to get furniture inside, and your video showed me how to do it easily; and I also learned a few things to make my door work even better; once I put it back on! You DA MAN!

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Mine closes super fast, I’ll try to adjust the screws. Wondering if the are all generic
@tonyl19842 жыл бұрын
If it’s closing to fast then usually best practice to fully wind in the closing & latching screws then start from scratch, that way you can set the door to your preference

Thank you 👍👍👍👍👍 I was losing my mind because the door would not shut again after I took it off to bring in a delivery, but after watching your video, I realized that I did not try to reinstall with the door close I did it with the door open and it sucked but your quick fix was perfect
@Wooster777 жыл бұрын
Thanks, man. This saved me $450 which I was quoted. Not even sure if it needs a new closer, the door is just sagging and now I know how to adjust the door position.

Awesome video!!! Thank you man. Vortex is a rip off company here in UT as well. So I got another estimate from another company and that one was even worse at $723.00. After watching your video I realized mine might not even be broken, checked it out again, square notch was disconnected, just pushed it back in place. Fixed for nothing. You saved me $730.00!!! 🙏🙏😀

ADA suggests a Closing speed to be about 5 - 9 seconds (I do 7 seconds) to be devided by the swing speed and the latch speed... 4 and 3 respectively... Hope this Helps...

expert in door closers here, you did a good job replacing the closer and installing the CRL. if you have not tossed it to the dumpster yet, there are places you can send the international to get rebuilt to fix that leak and use it again. if you choose to fix it yourself, I can help you!! -Jess the door closer doctor

+JLD902 The CRL takes a lot to open... I may replace it again and get one that is easier to open. I will look into having the other one refurbished. Thanks for the tip.
@JLD9028 жыл бұрын
+freefreakshow if its too heavy, like you said, will have to go to next size lower closer, depending on the model number on the flat surface (surface touching the top of door inside the hole it sits in) may show the date code and the spring size, also be aware some its stamped in the big round part around the square (the square part is called spindle/shaft) date code (depending on how old it is, as the date code location has changed a couple times as years passed, some itsbelow the 20-330 but upside down as impressed stamp, the newer ones, the date code is in same format (4311 lets say) but as an inked stamp on the visible surface so you can immedately see it when you remove the coverplate. the format they use, first number is month, second is day, and last 2 digits are the year, so 4311 is april 3rd 2011 another thing you can do,if dont want to go to next (non-adjustable)size smaller, go with the blue CRL Jackson version, it has a spring tension adjuster on the end near the 2 round end caps. the blue one is sized 1-4 which may fit your needs, I am sure an end user/owner of a door can buy one off CRL website, (CRlawrence.com) if not, eBay may be your best bet. but the only thing you have to be careful of with eBay, as closers as we both know have oil, many times the seller will drain its oil before shipping it, if you see one you like, best to contact seller about if it's in working conidtion and if he drained its oil or not, and with that, not too hard to do, I have done it myself with the blue jackson, I'll be willing to help you with this if you need help, as for the big truck driving overpriced guy, I think he was trying rip you off and reel you in hook, line and sinker by telling you to pretty much close the valves, to "burp the air out of it" so he can come back on a return call when you start to complain about it being super slow. when there is air in a closer, depending on how much air, (if very small amount) it may not effect it other then cause a "shhhhhh" noise, but as more air enters the closer (and more oil exits it) it will sound like its gurgling and is a sign of rebuild or replace with new. now with rebuilders, they will charge you shipping both ways and the benchwork that happened to it, the one you took out looks like just a o-ring failed around the shaft, DIY'ing "closer surgery" is not recommended, as you need special tools and if get into where the springs are, you could get hurt by its spring. I hope this long message helps you somewhat in getting the door controlled and easier to open for your customers, I guess I can add tattoo artist to the list of walks of life to have door closer questions/problems that I have dealt with (helped) I also have a facebook page that is filled with door closer hints, tips and tricks to dealing with OHC, surface mount and those that are concealed in the floor. please read, comment/like the page, and feel free to leave a comment or a message! facebook.com/JessTheDoorCloserDoctor/ -Jess the door closer doctor

Funny how you people complain, these parts are super expensive and y’all think they’re just going to charge you what the part cost them? If the part cost $360 then they have all rights to sell it to you for $600 plus labor since you don’t know nothing about this type of special work… but y’all be selling beads and soda for a 700% mark up 💀💀😂

Good job. They guy that replaced it doesn't sound as much as experienced as could be. They sold you a low/lowest end knock off and charged standard prices. Even being in the low end it should last WAY longer then a year, even if you have high traffic coming through the door. If it ever breaking in 3 months or less it's a bad closer(it happens but not often) or bad install(most common). If you buy the complete package it comes with a replacement pivot and arm and I replace them most of the time. You buy new you get new and you don't see me again for that. Good job again, Im sorry for your experience with that tech, just sucks you felt like you had to do it because you felt ripped off. You did get lucky that everything lined up for the most part, but it can and has gotten more tricky!

That screw you pointed to is your adjustment canting the door. The hinge side is good, but the door drags on other side. adjust that screw.
@johnburens33957 жыл бұрын
It should take about 8-10 seconds to close the door. Adjust the closing speed to close about to about 80%, should take about six seconds and the remaining latch speed 2-4 seconds. The closers wear out quick if there is a high volume of foot traffic. We gotta get paid to instal them... Good job saving some dough. Your door should close a bit quicker than what you have it set at.
