Thank you so much. Nissan quoted me $150-$200 for the sensor and 1 1/2 hours labour. A ball park figure of $400 plus over the phone after I rang them when roadside assistance told me the error code was for the crank angle sensor. I watched this video and bought an aftermarket sensor on special from REPCO for $35 and put it in the following day after work. Took me about 1/2 hour. Very happy, cheers :)

Glad it worked out for you. I had the same issue in a T30 Xtrail back in Dec 2016 immediately after purchase. I think the $400 quote is a little steep. I bought the newer metal OEM sensors for $80 each AU and got mechanic to install for another 160. total $320. I wonder how many km you got out of yours before they failed. I'm trying to figure out the approx age, Km of my engine as it's 2nd hand. Cheers

Just completed this task. My car had been using stacks of oil, over a 1L per 100kms. A couple of my plugs were oiling up, and I thought this was the reason for the misfiring. Had the engine replaced due to the oil consumption. Afterwards, it would still misfire occassionally. My OBDII unit indicated a pending error with the Crank Sensor. I surmise that I actually the oil consumption and the misfire were 2 different problems. Replacing the sensor was easier than the impression I got from reading a few of the posts. As some say, the key would be to remove the bracket under the throttle, and I used a small step so I could lean into the engine bay at bit easier. Thanks for the video. Its nice not to have to figure it out from scratch.
@hazlbri6 жыл бұрын
Many thanks. Very helpful. Mystery dispelled. What I find hard to accept is that a mere sensor, a detection device, can actually cause an engine breakdown, or even an accident, e.g. in the middle of overtaking, instead of just providing information that there's a fault. Old cars never had such troublesome sensors. They broke down for other reasons, I know.
@stulesorgen2146 Жыл бұрын
They break down because as was with my car, after 3 fault signals on the same code, the engine cuts out .. In order to get it going again you either have to run a scan and delete the codes you fill the engine OR, as I also did, disconnect the negative battery lead for a long time, which caused everything to reset and show restarting the engine...
@stulesorgen2146 Жыл бұрын
I just wanted to give you a big thanks for the brilliant video which allowed me to get a top sensor and replace it up literally only took 5 min, and confirm that it was the faulty one.. (thanks for the pic of old and new type sensor and min was the old and the new one was .. Well... New type!!) FYI, the old sensor caused my motor to sound and idle rough and gave the exact error codes you showed and caused my motor to cut out... We're up and running and I saved at least $200 from garage costs... Cheers!

For me, this was the most helpful video out there, bc it actually shows the position the sensor, which can only be located by feel. And although it shows removal of the filter and associated tubing, what is doesnt show is the whole bunch of pipes that are in the way of reaching in to remove that bracket, and then reaching beyond to the sensor location. Perhaps he removed them in advance. Anyways, I was confused and disoriented by this for half an hour, b/c it looked so different. In the end, I did not have to disconnect any more tubes, but was able to reach through them with some difficulty. Whole thing took 2hrs, and now my car starts well!

Literally just finished doing this on my 2006 nissan x-trail and this video was a big help! The lower sensor behind the engine was terrible to get out but I managed to get it after several attempts to pull the sensor out. I had to take a small screw driver and wedge it in behind the bolt nib to pop it out. Not easy as you have almost no room for leverage. It is done though and thanks for the video! Sounds like my problem exactly! if your car 2004 then most likely you have done more than 150,000km which over the lifespan for the original plastic camshaft and crankshaft sensors. The most common reasons why a car jerks when accelerating, because your car's engine needs both fuel and air to do its work. A block in the fuel line or air intake or faulty Spark Plugs coils can make the car jerk during acceleration as it loses one. So you will need to do few checks on your air filter, spark plugs and fuel filter and it should be one of those.

OK, did this today finally. Took a few hours but now I could do it in less than one. I googled while I was struggling and on another Nissan, they suggested to remove the engine cover. Well that made a big difference. I could now see the sensor bolt and my fingers thru a slot with a bright flashlight, so DO remove the plastic engine cover. You have to shine the flashlight down the same vertical slot that you look into so it's a bit tricky but it really helped to see what was going on. Also, unplug any electrial connector plugins that are in your way, that really helped too.
