Here it is, 8 years after Mr. Mabry's post, and it's still going strong!! I loved the detailed approach. It gave me confidence going into the project - and it worked as predicted. Thank you very much for taking the time. Note: The timing cover has 3 snap-together 'locks'; front, top, and back.

Man that tip about the rag is worth a million bucs!! Tackled this job and had it not been for that rag I would have lost both of those sensor mount screws
@andrewburford28092 жыл бұрын
Very helpful thank you. I put a block of wood and a jack under the sump just to take the weight of the motor. And removed the engine mount. That made life a lot easier,when it comes to removing and installing the sensor bolts.

Had a dead cell in my battery. (3 years old from Mavis) and a local mechanic said THAT could make the camshaft sensor make bad 'returns'. I installed a new battery and the hesitation is still there. BTW: THANKS a bunch for showing where those 3 bolts are to the airfilter box! Had a problem with chipmunks storing acorns in there! Need to install a metal mesh to keep them out! Had the sensor and timing (belt & wheels) replaced 5 years ago. All my troubles started recently following an oil change.

Thanks so much for making this video! Wouldn't have been able to do it without you. Great tip on using a rag to keep the two sensor bolts from falling down into the timing belt housing. Unfortunately, I left a gap with my rag and a bolt managed to fall through it. Had to take off the tire, splash guard, serpentine belt, lower timing belt housing cover, and finally the engine mount to retrieve the bolt. If I had to do it again, I may have just taken off the engine mount to start with; makes it way easier to get at those two bolts that hold the sensor in place (especially for less-skilled people like me!). If anyone reading decides to take this approach, just be sure and put something under the engine (a jackstand or something) to support its weight before you remove the engine mount. Anyways, thanks again!

'something under the engine' For SURE! Thanks for mentioning that. I was beginning to think the engine might have some other connection to the frame to support it! ;-)

Thanks just did this on my Mum's 2010 Holden Barina (Australian re-badge of one of these). I didn't take the timing belt cover fully off, just pushed it up and left the AC pipe bolted in. Getting the two bolts back in the CMP sensor was the most difficult part. I had to start them with only the socket, no extensions as I couldn't get the angle right with extensions. Also used the paper on on the bolt head between the socket trick to get those bolts in. Engine Fault cleared, now time to see if it comes back.
@slim3d9 жыл бұрын
Great video and excellent tips! I used a universal joint on my 1/4" socket and it made it easier to get to the bolts holding the sensor in. Sadly, 2 days after I replaced the sensor, the check engine light came back on...
@31goRo4 жыл бұрын
and what was the reason?
@slim3d4 жыл бұрын
@@31goRo It was a bad sensor. I was able to return the bad one and get another that actually worked.

@@slim3d Is there an electrical test we can perform to check BEFORE installing? I just had the Throttle Body Position Sensor removed and cleaned (TB full of oil and grime). Another video here showed how to electrically test that sensor before installing.

Thanks so much for the very useful guide. Father's Day spent fixing the Mrs Holden Barina (here in the land down under). Best. Very thorough and went exactly as you described and also did it in a slightly different order like you suggested re air filter box. Saved $420 AUD mechanic bill

hi i followed how you replace the sensor everything went easy but the plastic cover that goes over the cams took some time to figure out how to get it back on right. you have to lift cam cover up and over the top to seat right. thanks for your very helpful video. i have a 2007 aveo5 pretty much the same as your car.

I had to hammer a 1/4 drive 10mm deep socket on to the upper bolt holding the camshaft sensor on to the body. Maybe my sockets are a little thicker than usual but it wouldn't slip over the bolt head normally/

Hi, Mr. Paul, i wonder if you could tell what signals reads do you get from your cmp connector ? i had to replace the mine because the cables were mixed up, and i'm unable to find the correct order over the net, i'm receiving from my car wiring a 12V(battery cable), 5V (i guess this is the ECU signal cable) and 0,2V cable (ground from ECU?) , i just guessing the order is 12V pin 1, 5V pin 2, and 0,2 (ground) pin3 ? ,but i'm afraid of a bad configuration would burn my new sensor, thank's , also excellent video, i was able to change mine a lot easier with it =)
