That tool you made to support the clutch and flywheel is pretty handy. Just a old input shaft welded to a plate then bolted to a harbor freight trans jack.

It's a dam shame more drivers weren't like you Gord. The world would be a better place for sure. So many truckers out there love to run their mouth and they can't do shit to save themselves. My belief is that if you can't identify the parts of a truck correctly and cannot repair the basic services with basic hand tools, you're steering wheel holder.

@lukereynolds99076 жыл бұрын
Great job mate but you should think about putting a small strap on the gearbox I always do had a few come off
@dave11356 жыл бұрын
luke reynolds yeah, its no fun to be taking it down or putting it back up and have the trans roll off. Nothing you can do but get out of the way. There's no strong arm holding that. Used to help do older trucks that had a large cover you could remove, the old mechanic I worked for had a small winch that sat in the cab above the trans that we could lower the trans with. Was much safer than a trans jack

Excellent video, excellent prep, excellent information. Do you have any shots of checking his much wear you have left on the flywheel. How much more time do you think it would have taken to take off the next housing and check the rear engine block or back ports for leaks, and reseal it back in place? Thanks for putting these repair videos out huge help in understanding these big projects.

@57bagre4 жыл бұрын
You don't take the transmission down for the bull gear but you do take the oil pan off and you can do the main bearings at that time if you want unless you plan to do an in frame soon.

Is there a alignment pin I can buy online for freightliner bell housing
@57bagre2 жыл бұрын
I never had a need to replace a dowel pin on a bell housing but I'm sure you can order one from a freightliner dealer, I would just go to a heavy truck transmission shop and they would probably just knock one out of a junk transmission for free.

if ya ask me ya kinda did it the hard way man, I Always unbolt the clutch first completely then all the bottom bell bolts slide the jack in under it throw a ratchet strap over it snag the top 4 bell bolts pry it back about a 1/2 inch and then your out clutch comes down with the trans lot less work and also I put em in the same way, from start to finish I can have a clutch out and back in adjusted probably 5 to 6 hours if i'm taking my time, I've had to hurry before and done one in just under 4 hours thats just the a bit of advice, sometimes ya get a hand hold that really deep with a short steep angle and you cant access the clutch bolts ya have to do it the old way, but the old school macks with the great big maxiforce trans the ones that are like 5 foot long just absolutely huge the ONLY way you'll ever get a trans in or out of one is to pull the clutch and trans at the same time just a time saver thats all
@57bagre6 жыл бұрын
I'll try that next time.
@bigbigjohnlee6666 жыл бұрын
its weird the first time but it can cut a clutch install time in half or more. if ya do it that way a couple times youll ask yourself why ya didnt do it sooner lol great videos man

@@57bagre Gordon you do it your way ,yes he is right you can remove gear box and clutch together .You have keep turning fly wheel and keep taking all bolts from clutch pressure plate one by one through that inspection hole but anyone who going to claim "he can do it in 4hr whole job " is full of crap . Yes on small japanese truck but not on Kenworth or Steerling truck with Eaton or Roadranger gear box . On some trucks we have to remove air tank and exhaust muffler becouse they are in the way and you want be able to move gear box back . That jig for clutch is great tool . I used to lift them up busting my balls
