Thanks Mike. This is my third time I’m replacing my belt. I always have an issue with the belt placement. I’ve watched many videos and followed those instructions but you are the only one that spoke of a door in the back of the dryer. Thank you so much for posting these videos you save Mom’s like me money and explain the directions very simply. You are definitely a kind human and I thank you!!

Hey Mike! Thanks for the video, but I do have two observations. (1) If you put the ribbed side against the drum, then the ribbed side won't make contact with the motor spindle unless you put a twist in it. I flipped the belt around around and the flat side is now against the drum and the rib makes the expected contact with the motor spindle. (2) You mention placing the belt in the groove of the drum. That's not where the original belt was placed - it was a little toward the front ( a black wear mark showed the location). I placed it in the groove and, noticed that as the belt came off the idler pulley and started heading up again, it was making contact with the motor spindle, making quite the racket when I turned on the dryer. I moved the whole belt on the drum towards the front of the unit (right on top of the old wear mark) and it's running perfectly again. Just wanted to pass on my experiences. Thanks!
@dannycolemire26522 жыл бұрын
I believe you are correct also you can clearly see the twist in the belt.

I have an IntelliDry Maytag gas dryer from the late 1970s. It won’t restart after I open the dryer to pull out hot clothes. I thought the heat or thermostat could be the problem. After the dryer cools and I can move the drum a little I can get it to restart. It makes a funny noise which could be a slipped belt. I think my problem occurred when I took off the front of my dryer to clean the thick lint from using Gain Detergent. I love the smell and put up with the lint. I think my problem could be from moving the belt on the drum.
@CarolTroutman4 ай бұрын
I had exactly the same problem until I moved the belt out of the groove and onto old wear marks; then it worked fine. Dunno of maybe OP has a different model, but mine uses the ribbed side on the motor drive and smooth side on the tensioner and drum. Anyway, thanks for the comment, it helped!
@themarculaАй бұрын
@@CarolTroutman Yes, other youtubers distinctly say that you should not use the groove but use the wear mark on the drum. Also, there should not be any twists in the belt. I'm grateful that he put the belt on from the back as the other youtubers mostly did it from the front. It is tricky either way b/c you have to visualize it and then take steps to make sure that the right surfaces from the belt hit the right wheels.

The best video that helped me a lot without struggling. Why the other video made me struggle while there's an access at the back of the dryer. The other you need to reach it from the front. Thank you Mike! You're the best 👌👍

Thank you, Mike! Straightforward and very helpful. A screw had loosened and backed out of one of the baffles. It was far enough out to hit the underside of the top on each revolution. It was an easy fix made easier by your video.

The flat side goes against the drum so the belt engages properly with the motor ... not the rib side. When viewed from the back panel you can see the half-twist in the belt. Not supposed to be there.
@miketherepairguy1403 жыл бұрын
Yeah no belt on a dryer has the flat part against the drum. The rib side always goes against the drum But thank you for the comment anyways..
@JohnGreen_US3 жыл бұрын
@@miketherepairguy140 Not true. Older Maytag models, including this one, require wrapping the belt around the tumbler grooves-up. Notice you are placing the ribbed side of the belt over the top & on the right side of the motor shaft (looking from the back) & then wrap it back & around the idler wheel ... flat side down around the idler wheel ... this while at the same time you can see there are twists in the belt coming down from the drum because you wrapped it grooves down. Also, the belt should not be placed in the indent of the drum - doing so results in less belt tension, creates a slight belt angle down to the motor shaft & may cause the belt to rub against the idler guide creating wear. If you look at the old belt track it sits outside that grove. Here's another tech's video that shows this. I viewed a few other vids that show the same flat-side down method, which keeps the belt operating with no twists all the way around. Depends on model year. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKarZH19rtRmo9k Newer Maytag models than the one shown here changed the motor shaft/idler wheel config & belt routing where ribbed side down around the drum would be appropriate.
@yvespetit3 жыл бұрын
John, you are right. I just changed my belt and I watched quite a few videos before and for this model with the idler pulley BELOW the motor pulley, the flat side of the belt goes on the drum. Another error in this video is at 10:04 when Mike says the belt goes in the groove on the drum. It does not go in the groove..just place it where there is a blackened track on the drum.
@wildatv3 жыл бұрын
@UCU1YKEZG4Nxgg6JCdWZFURQ Your an Idiot! You gave me inaccurate info and cost me an hours time! Rewatch your Video. You have a big twist in the belt because you put the ribbed side against the drum. Do you really know what your doing?
@jaimegutierrez27783 жыл бұрын
@@miketherepairguy140 So do you need that half twist in belt? I understand you said to put groove side down on drum and motor shaft. You showed putting the flat side on idler wheel only. But again, my question is if you need that half twist in belt? Thank You

He's the only one that actually shows it .... Thank God for the access door

Hey Pablo ! I'm just curious about how much you use your dryer. I bought mine new in 1996 and it finally started making a noise about a week ago. I traced it down to one of the drum rollers. Since I had it all apart, I swapped out both rollers, the belt, and the idler pulley, too. Oh, I had to replace a thermo shutoff once about ten years ago, but it's been perfect except for that. It's only my wife and me, so the dryer isn't supporting a big family. I'm just surprised you've had so many issues. I love this dryer!

Dude…nice job…..I’ve watched other vids before this one and you were the first guy to show me that access panel on my Maytag dryer …..looks like that’s the way to get to the spring load pulley assembly part …..From the other vids it looked like I was gonna have to get to it from the front and then make my way to the back of the dryer …..You may have saved me a lot of time and effort and maybe a couple of less swear words during the fix …..fingers crossed I can geter done!…….crap, now that I took a look it’s not the idle spring loaded assembly part behind the back access located at the back bottom right hand side of the machine but instead it sounds like it’s coming from wheel pulley on the other bottom side of the drum so I suppose I am gonna have to take drum out from the front to get to it …why couldn’t they have put another access panel on the other bottom side of the mAchine….let the swearing begin - damn it

@markk44092 жыл бұрын
Check bigfatmouth below. Which is correct? Do you put a twist in the belt so the ribs contact both the drum and motor, or do you put the smooth side on the drum and without a twist, contact the ribs only to the motor. If bigfatmouth is correct, then Mike the repair guy should be responsible andcorrect his video.

Sorry to tell you but you put the belt on upside down and in the wrong place. The belt does not fit in the groove rather about an inch forward of it. You can see where it rides on the drum if you look. I know this because I have the same exact dryer in my home .
@The_Conqueeftador Жыл бұрын
Your belt broke because you are putting it on upside down. The grooves are actually for traction on the motor not the drum. You want the grooves facing outwards around the drum. Your method requires a twist and is why it likely broke and why anyone who does it this way will be buying another belt soon.
@dannycolemire26522 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry bud but your doing that wrong. The groove side goes upwards on the tub and the belt does not go in that groove it goes about 2 inches away from the groove toward the front. You can look at the tub it will have a worn somewhat black mark where the belt was
